In c++ every object have to have memory ... here even if you define empty structure compiler has to allocate memory to it. and minimum size is 1 byte.

When u declare a structure it never take memory , but when u take a varibale of that structure then the compiler allocate the memory for it.
Sice your structure is Empty but the symbolic name u r going to provide it it takes 1 byte. As the size of the char.
