an Invitation to be Involved in a Survey on Developing ScientificCompu ting Software

If you are involved in the development of scientific computing
software, you are invited to participate in a survey on developing
this kind of software. If you have already received this request, I
apologize for the cross-posting, but I am attempting to advertise to
as many developers as possible.

I would appreciate it if you could take 20-30 minutes to complete this
questionnaire. If you know others involved in the development of
scientific computing software, could you please forward this survey to
them. Your assistance is highly appreciated.

There are 37 questions in the survey, which can be accessed via the
following link:
http://www.eSurveysPro.com/Survey.as...d-70db013d8038

The survey is for a research experiment conducted by myself, Jin Tang,
a master student at the Department of Computing and Software, McMaster
University, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Spencer Smith. The
result of this survey will help me with my research on the processes
used to develop scientific computing software, where scientific
computing is defined as the use of computer tools to analyze or
simulate mathematical models of continuous real world system of
engineering or scientific importance so that we can better understand
and potentially predict the system's behaviour.

The short term goal of this survey is to find the processes that
industry and academia follow to develop their scientific computing
software. The mid term objective is to direct research on adapting
software engineering methodologies to improve the quality of
scientific computing software.

Questions in this survey are related to the process of developing
scientific computing software. For example:
What kind of libraries do you use to develop scientific computing
software? In your current group, do you consider software reuse? What
level of software reuse do you reach? What method(s) do you use for
software validation and verification.

All questions are voluntary and you need only answer those questions
that you wish to. If you agree to participate in the survey, you can
change your mind and discontinue the survey at any time. This research
will pose risks no greater than what you would experience in the
course of your day-to-day work life.

If you are interested in this study, we are very happy to share our
survey report with you. Please provide your email address in the
survey, the survey report will be sent to you.

All your answers to the survey questions will be kept in Excel files,
which will be completely confidential and only available to myself and
Dr. Spencer Smith. If you have any questions, please contact Jin Tang
or Dr. Spencer Smith. The following is our contact information.

Hi, I want to migrate a survey program to web application and have selected PHP to use a on the server end along with apache and firebird rdms. As developing a web application is much different than a standard app I have some questions: 1) The survey has 50 questions with answers being 1-10. Is it best to store all 50 questions and corresponding answers in a javascript array and then up all in a batch update? The downside to this...

Hi all! I'm doing a research project on the motives of free software / open source software developers. This survey follows a somewhat different approach than some earlier studies and tries to incorporate concepts of social psychology to better understand the internal motivation of developers. The questionnaire consists of 44 questions which should be scored on a scale from 1 to 7. According to test runs, completion of the...

We like to invite you to a survey about the working conditions in Free/Open-Source Software development. This survey is conducted by the Open-Source Research Group of the University of Würzburg (Germany). We will compare work design in open source and proprietary software development. Our findings should be used to adjust the working conditions of software development to the needs of the developers. The results will be published under...

I'd like to extend an invitation to those who would like to get involved in advocating the use of Python. In August, the PSF hired me, for a 6-mo contract, to coordinate the Python advocacy effort. Since then I've been working to make the next PyCon one of the best conferences yet, and putting in place the infrastructure of a newcomer portal (http://advocacy.python.org) focused on drawing in those people who don't know much about Python...

Dear software practitioners, consultants, and researchers, we are currently conducting an international survey about architecture and design patterns. Our goal is to discover how familiar people are with these patterns (and anti-patterns) as well as to elicit the information need, the usage behavior, and the experience of software organizations regarding architecture patterns and design patterns.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
