I'm not sure about a factory method, but I have heard of the factory design pattern. The implementation is simple, it just creates new instances of a commonly used class.

A factory method is similar to a factory; most of the times the method is a (static)
member of the (super) class itself and is able to create instances from the class
or sub classes thereof.

kind regards,

Hi, Given a collection of similar but not exact entities (or products) Toyota, Ford, Buick, etc; I am contemplating using the Abstraction pattern to provide a common interface to these products. So I shall have an Abstract Base called 'Car' implemented by Toyota, Ford, and Buick. Further I'd like to enable to client to say Car *factory;

Hi all I have code for an object factory, heavily based on an article by Jim Hyslop (although I've made minor modifications). The factory was working fine using g++, but since switching to the Intel compiler it has stopped working. I think the singleton pattern static instance thing may be at the root of the problem, but I'm not sure. I had to add calls to instance() in regCreateFn, which gets the behaviour more in line with what I was...

Hi all! We're creating an administration for a web application. This includes severeal aspx pages. Our key entity in the web application is "Profile", which can have a certain type. Based on the profile type, the administration pages will have some small changes, such as displaying a few extra tabs, or maybe change the available choices in a dropdown.

Hi, I have been stuck trying to come up with a design for days. I am working on a small project regarding barcode and I want to implement a factory design. I am now confused. I decided factory pattern since I am dealing with EAN13, UPCA12 UPC8 etc. Can someone provide a small sample on how to start. I have looked at the factory implementation online but still can't figure it out. Can someone provide a sample jsut to start with.

Hi, if I consider the Factory Method design pattern, then I should have the following objects: Object and ObjectFactory which are usually abstract classes Then for each subclasses like ConcreteObject1, ConcreteObject2, .... I must have a ConcreteObjectFactory1, ConcreteObjectFactory1, ...

I'm using gcc 3.4.2 on Mingw. The factory is the same as the one in Modern C++ design (without error checking) , like this :

I am using the factory method to solve a problem where a factory can produce product. I have a base factory class and a base product class. The problem that I am having is that for every product subclass type I am having to create a factory subclass to handle differences in logic. They are becoming one to one. Is this ok? Should I look at another pattern to solve the problem? abstract Product Product1: inherits Product Product2:...

Hi everyone, Sorry, I don't know what group to post this problem, I think may be this group is suitable. I'm styduing DAO (Data Access Object) pattern in this link http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/DataAccessObject.html. While I've read about implementing Data Access Objects by Factory Method Pattern (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/images09/figure09_07.gif) and Abstract Factory Pattern...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
