python.org has a page of "Python vs. X" language comparisons at
<http://www.python.org/doc/Comparisons.html>. They're all pretty outdated,
and often unfair because they're written by a person who knows Python well
but has only a nodding acquaintance with language X.
I'm planning to drop this page from python.org because it's so outdated and
no one is around to maintain it. If anyone wants to grab the contents and
turn them into a Wiki...

On questions of the suitability of Python for CGI, embedded apps, etc.,
execution speed comes to mind. I previously read some comparisons which
did not show Python in a good light in this regard: i.e. Python is slow
compared to Perl, C++, Java.
http://www.flat222.org/mac/bench/
Is there more authoritative and current information IRT speed comparisons?
Is newer Python any faster?

<BLUSH> Careless talk costs lives, as they say. In my case, a
throwaway comment that Python could trounce the notoriously
underpowered and undersupported AppleScript language for "serious
number crunching". (And Perl could beat Python, and Fortran could kick
all their butts, etc...) Well, you'd think me and the other guy would
be old enough to know better, or at least have more important things
to do, but nooooo...
Ah well, too late...

I've been utilising C for lots of small and a few medium-sized personal
projects over the course of the past decade, and I've realised lately
just how little progress it's made since then. I've increasingly been
using scripting languages (especially Python and Bourne shell) which
offer the same speed and yet are far more simple and safe to use. I can
no longer understand why anyone would willingly use C to program
anything but the lowest...

Hi,
This is a continuation of a dead post. I need to make a pixel map where
I can store pixel data for multiple images. Multiple windows in my app
may render the same image, so I want to keep one copy of the pixel data
and that's it (rather than multiple copies). Every image has a unique
StudyID, SeriesID, and then ImageID. So, I created a std::map that
looks like this:
struct ImageSink {

I heard from a friend that C++ is mainly being replaced as language of
choice for most C++ programmers around the world. I guess this makes
sence as it means that when learning you dont have to fuck around
sencelessly with low level garbage like pointers. I was going to learn
C++ but if times are changing I think I will just learn C#, it seems
more modern. I also thought about Java but its WAY too slow. I think
it should be easy to learn...

Out of curiosity I decided to make some speed comparisons of the same
algorithm in Python and C++. Moving slices of lists of strings around
seemed like a good test case.
Python code:
def move_slice(list_arg, start, stop, dest):
frag = list_arg
if dest stop:
idx = dest - (stop - start)

Try using a list instead of a vector for the C++ version.

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !
Part I. Meaning of...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
