Dear Friends,
Python assignment is a reference assignment. However, I really can't
explain the difference in the following example. When the object is
a list, the assignment seems to be a reference. However, when the
object is a number, the story is so different. I don't understantd
for what reason Python deals with them differently. The example is
as follows:
>>> a =
>>> b = a

Hello,
I am currently writing python bindings to an existing C++ library, and I
just encountered a problem that I hope has been solved by more
experienced python programmers:
A C++ class (let's call it CClass) is binded using classical Python
extension API to _PClass, which is accesible through python without any
problem. The problem is that I want this class to be extended/extensible
in python, and expose the python-extended version...

Is there a way to override the default processing of the assignment operator
for one's own __value types ? I realize I can program my own Assign method,
and provide that for end-users of my class, but I would like to use
internally my own = operator for some of my value types, so I can say "x =
y;" rather than "x.Assign(y);".
The op_Assign operator seems impossibly broken since it takes __value copies
of the two objects. Perhaps there is...

I have an abstract base class that has char* members. Is an
assignment operator necessary for this abstract base class? Why or
why not?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Experts!
Assume I have a class called SphereClass as the base class and a class
called BallClass that is derived from the SphereClass. The copy constructor
initialize the left hand object in this case object b2 below. It also
initialize subobject from class SphereClass.
The BallClass copy constructor looks like this.
BallClass::BallClass(const BallClass& bc) : SphereClass(bc)

I need an example of a managed overloaded assignment operator for a
reference class, so I can equate two classes A1 and A2, say called
ARefClass, in this manner: A1=A2;. For some strange reason my C++.NET
2.0 textbook does not have one. I tried to build one using the format
as taught in my regular C++ book, but I keep getting compiler errors.
Some errors claim (contrary to my book) that you cannot use a static
function, that you must...

I know this is a VB.Net ng. But hopefully, someone remembers some
classic (VB6) coding - besides I've not had any response when I posted
this to the VB6 specific ng.
I wrote a C++ librray that I want to use in VB6. I have exported a C API
(via a win32 DLL) that may be used in VB6 using the 'Declare Function'
syntax.
However, I need to group related functions together (in VB6), by
wrapping them together in a VB6 class.

Apologies for cross posing this but I am not sure if this is a VC 8 STL
bug or simply an invalid use of the iterator.
I have a PCI card access class which basically abstracts a third party
library from the higher level classes. This low level class is used to
allocate locked pages of memory before doing a DMA. The third party
library locks memory and returns a pointer to an internal structure,
which we can simply cast to a (void...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
