I'm having yet another headache with making a standard allocator. What
behaviour should be expected from the assigment operator? When would it
be called? Why is it there at all, when you can't change allocators in
containers?
To give a little more depth, I have a class like this:
class HeapAllocator
{
// All requirements of the allocator interface are met along with:

I am looking for any custom allocator sample code for std::vector.
Thanks.

Hi All,
I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a C++ question or a compiler question,
so please forgive me if I'm asking in the wrong spot. If so, maybe
someone can direct me to more appropriate spot.
In migrating from gcc 3.2.3 to gcc 3.4.3 the following situation comes
up.
I have the following:

One nice thing about collections and arrays is that they implement the
IEnumerator and IEnumerable interfaces which allow for more then one
iterator to walk the list of items without affecting the position of the
other iterators. Is there a similar thing with streams? Is there anything
in the framework that wraps a stream in such a way that the stream position
is decoupled from the stream itself?

I was browsing both the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites
looking for some good books but there appears to be *so* many
and it's hard to tell which are going to be good or not.
I'm looking for one or two *good* books on the subjects of
ASP.NET and ADO.NET together. E.g., using ASP.NET on the
front end to communicate with a back end database via ADO.NET.
I'm hoping to find a mid-level type of book. I've been using PHP
and MySQL for...

I've just read an article "Building Robust System" by Gerald Jay
Sussman. The article is here:
http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/classes/symbolic/spring07/readings/robust-systems.pdf
In it there is a footprint which says:
"Indeed, one often hears arguments against building exibility into an
engineered sys-
tem. For example, in the philosophy of the computer language Python it
is claimed:
\There should be one|and preferably only one|obvious...

Hi,
my own declared class has a stl::list as a member variable. I now need
access to those from the outside. Is a custom iterator for my class the best
solution for this and how to do this?
I would like to sort the list according to different criteria before, so I
would like to offer different iterators, which then sort first based on the
type of iterator constructed.
Any code sample or link would be nice.

I tested the speed of a simple program like this:
//------------------------------------------------------------
#include <list>
#include <boost/pool/pool_alloc.hpp>
int main()
{
typedef std::list<intList_t; // default allocator
//typedef std::list<int, boost::pool_allocator<int List_t;

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupr who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
