Is Delphi far better than C++? What is Delphi useful for?
Better for what? As a long-time Delphi and C++ programmer, I find that I
can write Windows applications in Delphi much more quickly and easily (in
most cases, at least). But does that make it better? It obviously depends
on your requirements. Delphi is considered a RAD (rapid application
developement) tool, and as such it meets that need very well (at least the
later versions do). It doesn't get much respect in the business world,
though, and having it as your primary skill won't get you a job as easily
(at least not where I live). It's also not portable to the Mac or Unix,
although Kylix was supposed to address that problem. (Whether it did so or
not, I have no idea...never used it.)
Oh, and by the way, since this newsgroup is intended to deal with specific
questions about the C++ language itself, and not comparisons to other
languages, you're about to be hit with a lot of "this is off-topic"
responses.
