Hi there,
I was wondering if C++ has some kind of default new socket wrapper, that
avoids many lines of code. Maybe there is a good C++ library?
Any ideas? I'm using UNIX, but portability would be great.

No, it most certainly doesn't.
Maybe there is a good C++ library?
Try looking for a post (happens here once a month or so) from
Nikki Locke, titled "Available C++ Libraries FAQ". It has
a link to an online list of various libraries, communications
is probably one of the sections there.
Any ideas? I'm using UNIX, but portability would be great.
Maybe you should ask in a UNIX programming newsgroup?...

Standard C++, the topic of this newsgroup, knows not of sockets.
Therefore your question is decidedly off-topic.

[hint: do a web search "C++ sockets" and you'll find plenty of options]

there are always going to be many lines of code. Any ideas? I'm using UNIX, but portability would be great.

I didn't see anything about a socket library in SDL...
here is a link to an SDL_net socket library function http://jcatki.no-ip.org/SDL_net/SDL_net.html#SEC18 This thread has been closed and replies have been disabled. Please start a new discussion. Similar topics |

Hi,
I have several threads communicating with each other using events
stored in Queues. Threads block on Queue.get() until somebody
publishes an event in thread's event queue.
I need to add support for sockets to the system. Thread needs to

Hello everyone,
I have a vb.net application that wraps the TCPListener object
in a class. The server connects to the local interface and establishes
itself on port 9900. It then polls for pending connections every 500ms.
I also have a vb6 application that uses the WinSock control at the other end
of the communication tunel. I have to work with vb6 here because it uses
less memory than .NET.

So I'm working with PureIRCD (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pure-ircd)

It errors here saying An unhandled exception of type...

I have a C# program that uses blocking sockets and want to allow the user to

I am (attempting) to move an existing socket application to use raw sockets.
Right now, my application is essentially a port forwarder. Upon receiving a
connection, it will open a connection to an "internal" server and simply
relay all information back and forth (when the client sends something, my
app sends that to the server, when server sends something, my app sends that
to the client).
While what I have right DOES work, the...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
