Program Solaris driver for parallel port SmartMedia card reader?

Hi folks,

I have a Sun workstation which doesn't have USB. I want to be able to
download photos from SmartMedia cards onto the workstation. As far as I
know there are no drivers available for parallel port SmartMedia card
readers for Solaris. I have some experience of programming in C++ and a
lot of experience of PHP. Can anyone give me an idea of how hard it
would be to write a driver for the card reader for Solaris?

Best wishes,

Chris Tidy

You're completely off-topic for this newsgroup, which deals with ISO
standard C++, hence no parallel ports or operating system specific
constructs.

You will need to find a more appropriate newsgroup, comp.unix.solar is
might be a good place to start.

Okay. Thanks Brian. I actually thought about posting at
comp.unix.solar is, but chose here instead. Obviously I was wrong.

Your question is highly off-topic. This newsgroup is for discussion of
the Standard C++ language as defined by ISO/IEC 14882. Please ask in a
newsgroup related to your platform.

Please see http://www.parashift.com/c++-faq-lit...t.html#faq-5.9

Thank you.

Perhaps not highly off-topic. It's not like my post was about the Mark
Foley sex scandal or something. An understandable mistake to make, I
think. But I take your point and I'll ask the question elsewhere.

Hi all I am having a problem reading from a serial port, first of all I have now resorted to using the MSComm ActiveX control on my Windows Forms to provide me with the interface to my serial port. is there no other way to do this - it has to be simple or well explained because I'm still new to the .NET world and c#. I did stumble across an article on the MSDN site where I downloaded a file NetSerialComm.exe - I think it was from one of the...

I am new to hardware programming. I need to write a program for reading data from Card Reader which connects to the PC windows 2000/XP OS through Interfacing The Serial / RS-232 Port / USB / Bluetooth / Infrared. May I ask does serial port equal to com port? The program needs to read and write data of the smart card which places on top of the card reader. The card reader has serveral models, they support

I'm writing and ASP.net app using vb .net. I need to interact with a credit card reader. I have one that sits inline with the keyboard. Works great, except for the fact that no matter what field the user is in on the transaction page (Name, Address, Credit Card number) the reader will dump the data at the cursor. So, if the user is in the name field and they happen to swipe the card, that's where the info goes. has anyone worked with...

Hi, I want to control some motors using the parallel port.. however, my laptop does not have any parallel ports (very few do). What I do have is a USB->Parallel converter... I thought about using PyParallel, but the USB->Parallel converter doesn't actually map to the LPT port .. and PyParallel only looks for LPT ports? Has anyone tried doing this? What are my options for controlling parallel connections on a laptop with no parallel...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
