Overloading operator -> for const member functions

1 New Member
Problem:
The operator -> is overloaded thus
Class * operator-> () { return this; }

but this causes a problem for const member functions . The purpose of overloading is that both . and -> can be used .

Is there a way out for const member function ?

Hi all, I'm overloading operator<< for a lot of classes. The question is about style. I define in each class header the prototype of the overloading as a friend. Now, where should I define the overloading of operator<<. In the .cc of the respective class or in a file where I am overloading operator<< for all classes? Cheers,

VB .Net does support operator overloading, doesn't it? It seems like this should overload binary addition, but VB doesn't recognize "Operator" Public Shared Operator +(ByVal c1 as cnum, ByVal c2 as cnum) as cnum ' End of statement expected End Operator

Hi! I'm diving into the some more ++ specific aspects of c++ (and finally accepting that c++ is more than "a plus added to c" :), so that means using namespaces, templates, std::strings, lists, vectors, operator overloading and what not.. And i was wondering if there is a way to override the global dereference operator, so to be able to check the address that one tries to dereference. This gives the ability to throw an exception when...

The C++ Standard Doesn't Permit Overloading new and delete? In the 13.5 of The C++ standard (ISO/IEC 14882, 1998), I cannot find the specification on overloading the operators new and delete; however, many C++ books including "C++ Primer" say that the operators new and delete can be overloaded. I wonder if this has definitive specification? Who can tell me? Many thanks to those who answer.

Python allows the binding behaviour to be defined for descriptors, using the __set__ and __get__ methods. I think it would be a major advantage if this could be generalized to any object, by allowing the assignment operator (=) to be overloaded. One particular use for this would be to implement "lazy evaluation". For example it would allow us to get rid of all the temporary arrays produced by NumPy. For example, consider the...

I've been asked to overload the insertion operator. What exactly is the insertion operator in C++, and how would one overload it? I think that in C I could overload the "+" operator like so: double operator+ ( char* left , char* right) { // some code here }

I use VB.NET to create ASP.NET apps. If I am not wrong, there is something called method overloading in VB.NET (like in C#) which is one of the features in OOP (polymorphism) but does VB.NET also include operator overloading like C# does? Ron

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
