build question: Finding available c++ compilers

Is there an easy way to detect the available compilers in a machine
(PATH environment)
inside a makefile/sconstruct file?

Thanks,

You need to ask this in the newsgroup for your OS.

Hi! I just tried to write a little program, but GCC (Mingw 3.3.1) refused to compile it. So I'd like to know if there's something wrong with my code or if it is a bug in GCC. ---snip--- namespace Namespace {} template <class TSomeType>

Hi, This is kind of last minute, I have a day and a half left to figure this out. I'm working on a project using ms-sqlserver. We are creating a ticket sales system, as part of the system, I need to be able to do a search for specific tickets withing price ranges, different locations within the theaters, etc. etc. My problem is in the search one of the criteria is to search for a group of seats together. For example let's say...

Hello! does anybody know of any forum template in vb.net that I can work with. I would like to build a forum, but all that templates I found is in C#. In fact I'm finding alot of the cool stuff I want to do, there coded in C#. I'm wondering if I should have taken up C#, but I thougt for a new programmer vb.net would be the way to go. So for a general question, how easy is it to program in C# as well as VB.net. I'm still new to...

hi all! i just built revision 41809 under winxp using a rather uncommon setup (at least i think so). since i have no visual studio here, i only used freely available tools: cygwin to get the source, the microsoft compiler/linker and NAnt (nant.sf.net) as the build tool to interpret the .vcproj-files (which may be the uncommon part). as far as i understand this setup is not supported in any way, but i noticed two problems, that could...

I have code which says #define MYBOOL int This code is very old. people who have written is not avaible. I was thinking what could be reason. 1) bool datatype was not available that time (10 years back: correct me if i am wrong) 2) int was word aligned (16bit and 32bit). Writter of above code doesnt want to give choice to compiler.

Hi, It came up in a standards panel meeting the other day that "all c or C++ programmers" have a copy of ISO C and/or C++ ... I challenged this and said most don't (outside those working on the standards). Well, do most of you have a copy of the relevant ISO language standard of your own or is there one on your desk at work?

Hi All, I have been given some code to wok on. It relies heavily on the optimiser to run at the correct speed. With this in mind I have been loking through it to see if I can help it out a bit. I have limitied knowledge of how compilers works, but I understand that some constructs optimise easier / better. We are using a variant of gcc (3.4.1 I think) on Nios II platform, if that makes a difference. The question I have is are these 2...

I use Visual Studio 2005 for a C-project using an external compiler, and came up with the idea that error parsing would be neat, i.e. enabling the functionality available for a "normal" build where you can double click a compile error/warning message and be guided to the file/line in question. Using sed to filter output from the compiler i managed to make the error output look like the ones generated from the regular compiler, and...

I'm the author of Yapgvb, a Python binding for Graphviz. Yapgvb enjoys modest success, but for some time it has been in dire need of a Python 2.5 build for Windows. I'm posting this message in the hopes of finding someone who is interested in making this build. This is a relatively quick task for someone who is comfortable with building C extensions and has an operational Windows build environment for Python 2.5 (which I don't). ...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
