Hi there,
actually, I have posted the same question in g.g.help.
As there were no answers, I am still not sure whether this
is a bug or only something open to the compiler that is
seemingly inconsistent or whether my understanding of C
is not complete enough.
I would appreciate answers or pointers to answers very much.

According to the docs, floats are 32 bit and doubles are 64 bit. So
using floats should be faster than using doubles on a 32 bit processor,
and my tests confirm this. However, most of the Math methods deal with
doubles and I'm having problems with casting them back to floats.
For example:
(double)0.1f = 0.10000000149011612
I don't need the accuracy of doubles, but the speed of floats would be
benificial, but it seems I'm either...

Hi all,
the following c# example baffles me. my understanding of
the managed code of visual .net is that all casts like
this would be safe, but this example seems to contradict
this notion. if you look at the debugger info, the double
dou is half filled w/ garbage bits, instead of those bits
being zeroed out appropriately.
using System;
namespace decimaltodouble {

I am grappling with the idea of double.Epsilon. I have written the
following test:
public void FuzzyDivisionTest()
{
double a = 0.33333d;
double b = 1d / 3d;
Assert.IsFalse(a == b, "Built-in == operator should not be

hi all...
I've readed some lines about the difference between float and double
data types... but, in the real world, which is the best? when should we
use float or double??
thanks

First, sorry if this is off-topic, not strictly being a C++ issue.
I could not find a ng on numerics or serialization and I figure
this ng is the closest I can get.
Now the question:
I want to serialize doubles in human-readable decimal form
and be sure I get the exact same binary values when I read
them back. (Right now, I don't care about NaN, infinities etc.)

hello guys.. i do really need some help here. i have to do the 4 basic mathematical operation by entering 2 numbers with decimal.
example.
1st num: 12.50
2nd num: 6.5
the answer must be in float or double but with my code below, upon entering a double or float numbers it will show this error:
java.lang.NumberFormatException: 2.0

Hi
Does any body know, how to round a double value with a specific number
of digits after the decimal points?
A function like this:
RoundMyDouble (double &value, short numberOfPrecisions)
It then updates the value with numberOfPrecisions after the decimal

I am writing a program which uses sqrt() a lot. A historically very slow
function but I read on CPUs with SSE support this is actually fast. Problem:
C's sqrt() (unlike C++ sqrt()) is defined to work on doubles only, and early
versions of SSE did not support double precision. The CPU requirement
"something with at least first generation SEE support" (everything from
P3/Athlon XP and up) is acceptable for me. However, requiring a CPU which...

I just noticed that my "improved" version of sscanf() doesn't assign
floating point numbers properly if the variable assigned to is declared
as a "float" rather than a "double". (This never cropped up before, since
I rarely use "float"s for anything, and hardly ever use the function for
floating-point numbers in the first place; I just was messing around
testing it for all cases and noticed a problem.)
Anyway, it is declared and I...

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
