Hi all
I have code for an object factory, heavily based on an article by Jim Hyslop
(although I've made minor modifications). The factory was working fine using
g++, but since switching to the Intel compiler it has stopped working. I
think the singleton pattern static instance thing may be at the root of the
problem, but I'm not sure. I had to add calls to instance() in regCreateFn,
which gets the behaviour more in line with what I was...

I'm a newbie in the world of c++, and I am used to learn a programming
language simply by programming. Unfortunately I where unable to find
any useful helpfile for this language, in which such basic things as
"class", "operator ::", or even my compiler's error-messages would
get explained in a quick-reference kind of way (as turbo pascal did
with the pascal-language). Therefore I was forced to read some books
and tutorials. However, I'm...

I am reading Lippman's Inside C++ object model.
I feel lonely because the Microsoft C++ compiler which I use does not
provide me an implementation details manual, describing how they
implement vtables in case of single inheritance and multiple
inheritance.
Just to verify what I read is correct I don't have the same from any
other compiler vendors also.
I do not know where CFront's implementation manuals are.

Sorry that the question I posted few minutes ago didn't correctly
describe the problem. So please ignore it. I repost the question as

I am developing an application on PPC405 (Walnut). But somehow in the
string in the C function doesn't work. The code is as below:

I have access to a wide variety of different platforms here at JPL
and they all have pretty good C 99 compilers.
Some people claim that they have not moved to the new standard
because of the lack of C 99 compliant compilers.
Is this just a lame excuse for back-sliding?

Hi,
Sorry to repost, but this is becoming aggravating, and causing me a lot of
wasted time. I've got a reasonably large mixed C++ project, and after a
number of builds (but not a constant number) linking (and sometimes
compiling) becomes immensely slow, and task manager shows that link.exe (or
cl.exe) is barely using any processor time, but an awful lot of RAM (around
150-200MB). I'm going to keep an eye on page faults since I can't...

The PyPy development team has been busy working and we've now packaged
our latest improvements, completed work and new experiments as
version 0.9.0, our fourth public release.
The highlights of this fourth release of PyPy are:
**implementation of "stackless" features**
We now support the larger part of the interface of the original
Stackless Python -- see http://www.stackless.com for more. A
significant part of this is the pickling...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
