memory usage profiler -- unmanaged code!!

Hi all,

Is there any memory usage profiler for unmanaged C++ appln.. basically, i
would like to track the reference count of all the objects being created
by the appln. and the memory being utilized by the same.

my appln. gets compiled using visual studio compiler and runs on win' XP.

i appreciate your help in this regard.

Thanks,

Matt

Yes I'm sure there is, but this question is not topical on a group about the
C++ language. Perhaps you could try news:comp.os.ms-windows.program mer.win32
or maybe news:comp.os.ms-windows.program mer.tools.misc.

I've been adapting an older unmanaged C++ legacy app to C#---with limited success. The original app made use of an older, but straightforward, C DLL that worked efficiently under the VC++ 6 model. To adapt to C#, I've wrapped the older DLL calls in an unmanaged C++ class which pretty much just parallels the original function calls and encapsulates the more ragged aspects (handles, etc). Then in turn, I wrapped the unmanaged C++ class...

I am having a strange memory issue in my server application. This application accepts socket connections, passes messages around, then closes them. Using the .NET memory profiler from scitech.com, it reports reasonable memory behavior, hovering around 400k for live bytes, and peaking no higher than 1.5megs or so for total bytes used. However, looking in the task manager at the process, it reports the memory being used at around...

Hi, I wrote a c# programme that listens to incoming TCP requests and services them. This programme is meant to be running as long as the server its installed on is running. So we assume for ever(!). My problem is that I have it running for 2 days now on my pc (win2Ksp3 P4 2GHz,512MB Ram - framework v1.0.3705) and the taskmanager reports that this process takes 97MB ram/130 VMemory and it looks that its eating up more ram(!!). To help...

How come .Net applications use so much memory? Every application I compile uses at least 10 MB of memory, even the ones consisting of only a form and nothing else. If I minimize them though the memory usage drops to a couple hundred KB. Why? Is there anything I should to to prevent this? I have compiled in release and deactivated all forms of debugging, I think! Thanks, Philip

I've written a basic windows service to provide some helper xml functions for my web methods and even thou the service is only about 1k lines long with 1 timer, its mem usage is 10m and its vm mem usage is 14! The same code written as a program that requires you to click on the menu options to fire off the events takes up 4/9mb. I've seen examples where calling SetProcessWorkingSetSize(hWnd, -1, -1); does the same thing as minimizing a...

Hi all, I have a web service that (for better or worse) returns rather large xmlDataDocuments (up to 150MB) I know - this is huge for a web service call, but this is a service that's used by few users (less than 10) so I'd prefer not to rip it apart right now - my question is can someone explain the following memory usage first, my code looks like (pseudo coded) DataSet ds = getDataSet(); // memory usage of w3wp is at about 250MB after...

Hi, I have created a service which parses real-time prices from one format into another. This is all working very quickly and nicely, however, I have recently found that the memory usage is astronomical after a few hours. (1.5-2 Gig) After a good amount of digging I found that the memory usage is is all in System.String and contained within the pricing object. This object makes extensive use of a single string object which is...

Hi all I have been wandering about the best way to sandbox memory leaks in 3rd party libraries when using them from the .Net framework. I have a 3rd party library, written in C++, that leaks a lot of memory but I still had to use it. 1. After using DLLImport and seeing the memory leak I tried to load and

I'm developing a WinForms application. It slowly eats up memory, one client reported that it took 200MB or more, and finnaly crashed. I myself noticed it's common to use up 30MB memory, but if I minimize it (all the Forms will Hide, only a NotifyIcon is shown at the System Notification Area), the memory usage comes down to 8MB immediately. After that, even if I show the Forms again, it uses only 8MB memory. Do I have another way to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
