Hi,
I'm trying to write a function that adds a file-like-object to a
compressed tarfile... eg ".tar.gz" or ".tar.bz2"
I've had a look at the tarfile module but the append mode doesn't support
compressed tarfiles... :(
Any thoughts on what I can do to get around this?

I've got an intranet application that presents a list of files in sort of a
'central repository' web page. Each file is an href in the form <a
href=file://server/share/path/filename.ext>.
When the user clicks on an excel file, it is opening within the browser,
which unforntuntely confuses the heck out of them because the usual
Print/Print Preview menu options are not available. I would like the user
to be presented with the typical...

I have created an IHttpHandler that waits for uploads as attachments for a
webmail interface, and saves it to a directory that is defined in
config.xml.
My question is the following:
assuming that this is suppossed to end up as a component for others to use,
and therefore I do NOT have access to their global.cs::Session_End()
how do I cleanup files that were uploaded -- but obviously left stranded
when the users aborted/gave up writting...

Hi,
I have a web page which generates a CSV file based on some user input. When
this file is downloaded by the user, the file is being automatically
converted to .xls. Any idea how I can prevent this?
My code (snippet) -
StreamWriter sw;
if(File.Exists(filename))

In several aspx applications I export crytal reports to pdf, xls and doc
files and then the aspx page writes the selected export file to the client
browser. This all works with one small quirk: When I run any of the web
apps on my workstations iis website, the pdf download always produces the
"File Download" dialog, even though I have Confirm after Download turned
off. When I select to Open the file from this dialog the file opens in...

I need to know how can I open a file which is named using UTF-16
encoding in unicode. I am desperately trying to open the file using the
wofstream typedef, but even it takes the parameter as const char*, I
tried converting the filename from UTF16 to UTF8 encoding, wofstream
does not seem to work with that.
What I gather is that streams internally use fopen for opening up a
file, I could not find any way for passing a file descriptor to the...

I'm using freeASPupload and got some assistance integrating to a Member script. It works successfully.
In this modified version there are two groups that use this upload script. Members of one group get automatically re-directed after uploading.
However, this member group never gets the benefit of knowing if they've uploaded an incorrect file size or incorrect file extension.
Members from the second group do see the "exceeds max file...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
