Hi,

Is it possible to deploy Crystal Report for VS2003 using other
environment to build setup e.g. Installer2Go or InnoSetup?

I don't have your answer, but I just wanted to let you know that
Crystal Reports work just fine in dev environment and when you deploy
the app created on a user computer some errors appear.
You have to add some dll files to de solution and type the reg code of
you Crystal Report in some library I can't remember.

Check out the Crystal site for a full coverage of the issue.

If the installer can handle merge modules, I don't see why not. The
only detail you would have to look after yourself would be setting the
license key property, but then you could just look at what VS2003 does
when you set it there, and do the same thing by hand.

There's no magic involved in the VS2003 setup projects. It just takes
the merge modules supplied by Business Objects (Crystal) and bundles
them along with your program, then invokes them somehow at install
time. If another installer can do the same thing, then it should work.

Hi,

I try to use Installer2Go - support merge modules - but I can't set
licence key for this module. I asked Installer2Go support how to do this
but till now I have no answer. This is the reason why I asked about
deploy CR9. I set licence key in VS2003 for reg_wiz.msm but how to set
it when installer doesn't support msm properties? By registry? By ini file?

If you build a deployment project with Visual Studio and you look at
the resulting .vdproj file, you will see that the entry for the file
Crystal_regwiz2003.msm contains a property called CRPIDKEY that looks
like this:

"CRPIDKEY"
{
"Name" = "8:CRPIDKEY"
"DisplayName" = "8:License Key"
"Description" = "8:"
"Type" = "3:3"
"ContextData" = "8:"
"Attributes" = "3:2"
"Setting" = "3:2"
"Value" = "8:xxxxx-xxnnnnn-xxxxxxx"
"DefaultValue" = "8:"
"UsePlugInResources" = "11:FALSE"
}

Of course, I blanked our Crystal Reports key out of the "Value" line,
there. :)

So, Visual Studio somehow builds this property setting into the
resulting .msi file. You would have to find out how Installer2Go allows
you to set properties for merge modules. If it doesn't allow you to set
properties for merge modules, then I guess it won't work.
