I think one of the major advancements on C# will be the growing support for
Extension Methods and related concepts...
The current syntax involves a static class with static members using a
warping of the "this" concept applied to function parameters. Surely we'll
see more twisting and warping of language semantics as this technology
evolves...
Rather than warp language symantics... It would be more apparently proper to
allow something...

I recently got into somewhat of a debate with a fellow co-worker.
First I asked him if he new of a way to add a method to an existing
class like enhancing a class but without using Inheritance. He asked,
"Why on earth would you want to do this? Just inherit." I told him
other dynamic languages can do this such as JavaScript where you can
just add method to say the Array classes prototype chain. I told him I
found this technique often...

Hi all,
This is an excerpt from the Book "Programming Microsoft Visual C#: The
Language":
A function evaluates to the return value. When a reference type is
returned, a function is available as a left- or right-value of an
assignment. Functions that return a value type are restricted to
right-values of an assignment.

Some simple yes/no questions. I tried googling first and couldn't find
specific answers.
These are related to .Net 3.5 extension methods
1) I found that I would like to add properties as well as methods. Is
there such a thing as Extension Properties?
2) Can you add static extension methods to classes? The 'this' part
implies an instance.
For example, I'd like to be able to go: System.IO.File.MyCrazyMethod()

I can't get Extension Methods to work in Visual Basic 2008 Express.
Says "Type 'Extension' is not defined."
Looks like the library included with the Express edition is crippled.
What am I missing?
Here's the code...
Imports System.Runtime.CompilerServices

The headline says it all. Great minds think alike: read the blog
below from three years ago, as endorsed by Ritchie, who coinvented
C.
BTW the below lambda expression code will not work (.Where not
recognized). I am using the 'standard' using directives using
System;using System.Collections.Generic;using System.Diagnostics;using
System.Text;
And Visual Studio 2007.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me why extension methods must be
declared on static classes. I mean, why not allowing them to be declared as
static methods in regular instance classes?
In case you are wondering, I am only curious to find out the reason for this
limitation. I don't really have a need to declare extension method on non
static classes. I am just curious.

Hi
I have 2 classes which are both instantiated by shared factory methods
and both implement a common interface.
Public Class Factory
Public Shared Function CreateMyClass1() As MyClass1
Return New MyClass1
End Function

When I first heard about these new features, I was very excited as it
would have (if implemented as I had expected) rendered mimicking
multiple inheritance almost painless in C#. Unfortunately, due to a
couple limitations of the language, MI is still not attainable (at
least not succinctly).
1 - Interfaces cannot define data (only properties)
2 - Extension methods cannot be used to mix in property definitions
(or implement interface...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
