Today I was working on a hideous old app that I created a long time
ago that does a lot of showing/hiding/resizing of fields on one of
the forms. I had used constants to store reference values for many
of the top/height/left settings. I noticed that some of the
constants were defined by using other constant values, and I was
impressed that VBA could do that. Here's an example:
Const row1Top = 1.0208 * 1440 ' top of first row
Const...

Hi All,
I have an old unmanaged code written in C++ 6.0. This is a
time critcal, CPU bound application. I have deciede
migrate this application to managed world and VC++ 7.0.
The first step was to compile the 6.0 version with /clr to
IL code....That was succesful ... I made clean build !
But the application didn't run. When I profiled the
application execustion i saw that the managed version is 2
times slower that unmanaged version. This...

I'm just experimenting around with the VisualC++ 2005 Express Edition Beta
and found some strange behavior for which I can't seem to find a workaround.
What I've done is set up two static library projects for Lua 5.0.2 and
LuaBind beta-6, compiling both with no CLR support and configured to use the
Multithreaded DLL runtime. Then I created a new console application which
makes use of these two static libraries (of course, also set to MT...

When compiling my ASP.Net application, VS puts the new DLL under the local
cached directory 'VSWebCache' in stead of on the server. How can I make it
save the DLL file on the server when compiling?
I have opened the source code project through 'File - Open - Open project
from web..'
Best regards,
Christina

I need some help.
I am trying to set up our development environment so as to make life
easy for my fellow developers (none of whom have used ASP.NET or
VS.NET before). We are developing our intranet which will comprise
basic content with a number of small data-driven ASP.NET applications.
I need to keep things simple, so I need to avoid stuff which needs too
much in-depth knowledge to work.

Can anyone shed some light on why compiling and running web-apps is so slow
in VS2005. I have a solution with 3 web-apps, 20 or so library projects and
several winforms apps. All in all it totals about 150,000 lines of C#.
I've only just converted this to VS2005 project but am frustrated with the
following:
- VS2005 insists on compiling all projects when I press F5 to run an
application even though no code has changed in the other...

Hi!
I have a problem on one of my databases.
I have a Java application that issues SQL statements to that database.
Some of the SQL statements make DB2 go to into a compile state for hours.
I see Compiling if I do "db2 list applications show detail".
How can I see what is causing this behaviour ? What do to ?
Best regards,

I have an application written in C that does a lot of low level stuff.
It does a lot of things like casting from void*'s. I want to create a
new GUI for it in either C# or MC++, but reuse the existing code.
The options I've considered so far:
1. Create a new MC++ GUI project and add the *.c files to them and mark
them with pragma unamanged. However, the /clr option does not compile
*.c files, so I rename them to *.cpp, and now they...

Hi,
i want to compile my application with this code:
cd \windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727
aspnet_compiler -p "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\myapp" -v / c:\compiled\myapp -f
But the problem is that this application creates at runtime an asp.file
(test.aspx).
When a user tries to start that aspx file, he gets the error:

Hi,
I have a little problem when I want to debug my web application.
The application is not that big, but I have about 200k content files in 2
directory trees from the root.
It takes ages for me to compile and it is not possible for me to debug the
application from VS at all since I get an error telling something like the
thread is terminated.
I have tried to find out what is wrong using the process monitor tool from
SysInternals, and...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
