Installer folder

I want to change the default folder where the msi of my service is going to
create to put my files into.

When I originally setup the installer in my solutions, it was created with
Setup1 and that was what it showed in my Solution Explorer.

I then changed the name and that worked fine.

I also went to the properties and changed the name of the msi that is
created and that worked fine.

But I can't find a place where I change the name for the default folder so
it is always creating c:\Setup1 by default.

Is there a place to change this?

Thanks,

Tom

I am using VS.NET 2003 and trying to deploy a service program(c++) to a Windows 2000 Server system. I have also written a small DLL (USSsetup.dll) that is used to start/stop the service using a custom action. This dll is apparently dependent on the MSVCP71.DLL and MSVCR71.DLL's as per the Detected Dependencies folder visible in the deployment project All this good except I am UNABLE to Retarget the output of the msm merge...

I'm having some inconsistency problems with my deployment project ("Setup") and its custom actions ("Installer"). I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2003 (.NET 1.1, no service pack) on Windows XPSP1. My main project is a band object (Explorer Bar) in an assembly (.DLL) that needs to be registered on installation and unregisted on uninstallation. In addition, during installation, Setup creates registry subkeys, sets registry values, installs...

Hi, I am trying to create an installer for my web application. So I added a web setup project to my solution (I am using VS.NET 2003). Been playing around with it since then and it basically works. Now, I am wondering if there is any way to change the directory that the installer installs the files to. I want to be able to put my files in a specified directory (user specified is good, but i don't mind hardcoding the path either) and...

I saw an article, once, on how to package image file in the installer so they are not accessible to the end user. I want to say hidden, but I don't just mean the file attribute of the image file. Does anyone know of the article I'm speaking of or a link on how to embed (another poor choice of words) the image files in the executable? Thanks, John

I've created a Windows setup project in VS.NET 2003. The first setup ran fine minus creating the Program's group. I made some changes and rebuilt the MSI and setup.exe files. Now when I run the setup.exe, I get this popup: Windows Installer: Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the...

Hi I'm using Visual Studio Installer to make my installer, and have not as yet figured out a straightforward way to use it to set environmental variables. Amongst the various things I tried, I'm thinking the following might help. I would appreciate if someone could comment on this idea and possibly suggest a better one: The environement variable in question is 'Path' in the HKCU registry folder's Environment key. I want to add some...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
