Limitations on a bound datagrid

Hello!

I'm unsure when I can use a bound datagrid and when I can't.
What limitations has a bound datagrid?

1. For example if I want to manipulate the data in the datasource before
displaying the data in the datagrid can I then use a bound datagrid?
2. For example if I only want to display some of the columns of a datasource
table can I then use a bound datagrid?
3. For example if I some of the columns in a datagrid should be readonly can
I then use a bound datagrid?

This is only some of the example.

So as a summary exactly what limitations does a bound datagrid have?

I am using typed datasets in an N-Tier Windows app using VB.NET. I know this posting cannot be fully explained in a single post that is why I am asking for someone to point me to a real world tutorial (in vb.net) that can show me how to use a bound Datagrid to it's fullest potential. I need to utilize the bound Datagrid in two modes. One were a bound Datagrid can be in edited directly utilizing bound combos and textbox right on the grid,...

I have a windows form that is bound to a datatable. In VB6 I could just update the field contents and it would be updated in the database, however if I update the text property of the control from code it is 50% chance that the update will make it back to the dataset. If I update the dataset instead of the form, it does not show on the form. Is there a method that should be used?

Hello, I'm trying to write a PageableCollection class which implements paging for me so I don't need to rely on the paging provided by the DataGrid as that generates huge viewstate when bound to a collection with a lot of items. The code below works fine when I use foreach to iterate over it but when I bind the Datagrid to an instance of this class I get the whole collection displayed in the grid! Does the Datagrid not use...

Hi, is there any way to format and order the columns displayed in a datagrid bound to a class that inherits from IBindingList? i have used DataGridTableStyle and added DataGridTextBoxColumns to it in the correct order which works fine if the dataGrid.dataSource = "ArrayList", but it doesn't work for my IBindingList wrapper. If i bind the datasource to the arraylist method then the ListChangedEventHandler is never invoked and my grid only...

Everyone-- I have a DataGrid that is bound at run-time. Upon the click of the Add, a new row is added to the top and it has several types of controls, (but, it is not permissible to use the built-in editing functionality of the DataGrid). The DataGrid is bound.

I have create a page with SQLDateAdapter, SQLConnetion, DataSet and Datagrid. I have bound the Datagrid at design time. I could not find a way to perform sort operation on the datagrid this way. I could only sort when I am not bounding the datagrid at design time Anyone has a code example for that (datagrid is bound in the designer) ? Thanks for your time ra294@hotmail.com

I have a Windows form that displays a database table in a DataGrid. When you click on a row, the row's values get copied to bound TextBoxes below, and when the "Save" button is clicked the database is updated (as is the DataGrid row) with changed values in the TextBoxes. Here are some observations: 1) When changes are typed into a text box and "Save" is clicked, the changes are reflected in the DataSet.Tables().Rows().ItemArray value, but...

I am having a weird problem with my DataGrid that is bound to an ArrayList. My situation is as follows: I have two DataGrids on a modal form. The top grid populates an ArrayList from a file, then the datagrid is bound to it, and it works fine. The bottom DataGrid is bound to a different ArrayList that holds the same type as the first ArrayList. Both DataGrids are set to Read-Only. The user selects a row from the top DataGrid, then...

Hi, I've bound an ArrayList to a datagrid and succesfully managed to display the data via an ItemTemplate column and using <%# Container.DataItem %>. The problem I have however is trying to read the value back out of the datagrid. Basically I have checkboxes next to each item in the datagrid - when the user clicks on a button im looping through each item in the datagrid and then trying to read the value out. This works for when a

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
