Jassim,

Have you looked into ClickOnce, or the Updater Application Block?

Live update of application when it starts. Use the click once technology and
it is included. There is also the Updater block that can be used.

Hello, About once every two days, I need to update the live/production site with new code (dlls, aspx's etc..), I currently have to find a time when no one should be logged in to system like early in the morning. However, occasionally I need to update it in the middle of the day where users are still using the system. What worst case scenario for our users would be then? I remember reading when I first started learning about asp.net...

We've been using dotNet for a couple of years now and have been updating our live server by just overwriting (Explorer drag and drop) the aspx and assembly files until we had some errors reported to us a couple of months ago that some clients received application server errors at the moment we updated (if I remember correctly, they were sharing or process in use errrors). Since then, we've been paranoid about ensuring that there is no...

Every time during development we had to make table changes, we use Control Center. Most of the time, Control Center fails. If you try to "undo all", it doesn't, and you end up losing your identity seed, or your constraints, or your triggers, or your table. Talking to developers at other companies who have had the misfortune of using DB2, they are adamant that you cannot use the tools; they are buggy and you just have to resign yourself to...

This is from SGI's FAQ, its the justification for why list<T>::size() is linear time in their library (and in gcc library too since their code is based on SGI) <quote> Why is list<>::size() linear time? The size() member function, for list and slist, takes time proportional to the number of elements in the list. This was a deliberate tradeoff. The only way to get a constant-time size() for linked lists would be to

I’ve been using Subversion for a while to maintain the PHP web apps and sites I develop in my Windows box. But when I want to publish a new release I update the live site manually and I want to improve this process. I can’t simply export to a fresh directory and upload all files because that won’t handle renames and deletions (and the upload will take forever anyway). I typically use WinMerge to find out what files changed but there’re...

I’m attempting to program a text based online game using PHP and MYSQL, one of the pages will allow you to mine. This means the MYSQL will have a record of your mined resources and the remaining resources in the mine. On the page that controls the mining I would like a field with a live number showing how much has been mined and how much resources still remain. How do you think I could do this? If I was currently mining at a given rate would...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
