Hello there,
The short version -- how to set warning level just for one specific
file, or more exactly how to relax warning level for it?
The long version -- I try to work at maximum warning level
/including -Werror/ but lately I have to work with QT and this library
generates a lot of warnings. I have read on
http://www.artima.com/cppsource/ C++ Coding Standards and tried to do
something similar -- i.e. write a wrapper for all QT...

I tell C++ Compiler to use level 4 warning instead of level 3 warning so
all variables can be calculated accuracy with no prone error.
It will give you a warning like this.
unsigned short A = 0x8002;
unsigned short B = 0x7FFF;
unsigned short C = 0;
C = A + B; // Warning loss high byte conversion -- 0x8002 + 0x7FFF = 0x10002

In C++ there is a very useful function to programatically disable warnings
temporarily.
Can this be done in C# ?

Just wanted to throw out there a VC7.1 compiler bug when usingwarning level 4. The following code will demonstrate theproblem:
class TestClass
{
public:
// Initialized float member, generates C4702 warning
TestClass() : m_fValue(1.f)

in March, i posted a essay “What is Expressiveness in a Computer
Language”, archived at:

I was informed then that there is a academic paper written on this
subject.
On the Expressive Power of Programming Languages, by Matthias

I am writing a COM in C# using visual studio 2005 and VSTO.
Inside the code I use some support classes that are generic but they are not
used in the inferface of the COM.
However I still get a number of warnings from the compiler like:
"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Microsoft.Common.targets :
warning : Type library exporter warning processing 'Utility.Array1D`1,
Test2003'. Warning: Type library exporter encountered a...

I have a macro that I use across the board for freeing ram. I'd like to
clean up my code so I don't get these warnings.
#define sfree(x) _internal_sfree((void **)&x)
#define _internal_sfree(x) ({ if(x && *x) { free(*x); *x=NULL; } })
void main() {
char *x = (char *) malloc(10);
int *y = (int *) malloc(10);

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupr who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
