Label.AutoSize is failing to alter Width property.

Label label = new Label();
label.Width = 1;
label.AutoSize = true;
label.Text = "A long string, requiring a width larger than 1.";
//At this point, Width is still 1.

What am I missing? Shouldn't AutoSize adjust the "Size"
"Auto"matic ally to fit the string?

Hi Patrick,

The Width property doesn't update until you add the Label to the Controls
collection of the Form (or whichever Parent you'd like).

Hello: I am trying to use Autosize=true on a long string and it extends off of my form, rather than increasing the number of lines of the Label as the documentation says it should do. Would anyone know what other property I need to set to get this to work properly? I have looked through them all and cant find any. PreferredHeight is read only.

Hi, A Windows form that I'm developing will have two controls: Label1 and Label2. Both controls are of type Label (go figure). The text of Label1 will not be known until runtime and may change at times. When the MyText property of the containing form is set, I want to: a) Set the Label1.Text property appropriately. b) Change the width of Label1 so that it is exactly wide enough to show the text.

This seems like a stupid question, but I can't find the property to prevent the text in a Label control from wrapping on the next line. Thanks.

I'm trying to create a form similar to a VB messagebox but with custom content. One of the things I want to be able to do is display some text in a label at the top of the messagebox form and have the form automatically expand to make room for it (which could be just a few words, or several paragraphs). In VB6 I used to use a useful trick of setting AutoSize property of the label to True, populating the Text property, setting the Width...

I am using a label as a tooltip box because I need to be able to change the background of the box depending on the information it is representing. That aside, I need to be able to auto-size the box depending on the amount of data within it. Sometimes the text in the label will be single-line, but a little long where it needs to wrap. Sometimes the text in the label has been forced to spread over three lines. Sometimes the label has...

I'm having a problem with an inherited label, applying text rotation to aligned text. If text rotation is applied to the aligned text, the alignment goes 'nuts'. I can find no logic to what is happening. I've built the following code from several examples on the web, if you remove the rotation then alignment works fine: Imports System.ComponentModel

Is there a way to / or a mathematical formula to see if a font size is 'too big' for a label. I have a label that is docked to 'fill' a form, and I want to resize that font based on the width and height of the label. So far I have something like this on the Form_Resize event: Label2.Font = New Font(Label2.Font.Name, _ Label2.Size.Height - 100, Label2.Font.Style)

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
