Question on Assembly.GetTyp e()

Hey guys,

Here is my scenario:
I have a form and two dlls, call them ClassLibrary1.d ll and Interfaces.dll.
In my form I have the following:

private Assembly m_assembly;
private Type m_type;
m_assembly = Assembly.LoadFr om("ClassLibrar y1.dll");
m_type = m_assembly.GetT ype("ClassLibra ry1.Class2");

Class2 is defined in ClassLibrary.dl l.

Now, Interfaces.dll contains an interface I want Class2 to implement. If I
have Class2 implement the interface from Interfaces.dll but do not have
Interfaces.dll in the same directory as ClassLibrary1.d ll when I call
GetType, the result is null.

If I define the interface in ClassLibrary1.d ll itself or place the
Interfaces.dll in the same directory as ClassLibrary1.d ll, GetType correctly
returns the type.

Why does GetType require that whatever file defines an interface that the
type you are checking for implements to be present? Couldn't GetType just
return "Class2" without caring what interfaces it implements?

Thanks.

I have web service always return a string in Xml format, and I have the code at client side translates this return string into correct value. For example: my web service returns a <ret type=”System.int”>1</ret>. So my client logic will translate this into integer value of one by using Type.GetType() function. Likewise, if my web service returns a <ret type=”System.String”>abc</ret>, my client again translates this into string type....

I was trying to write a routine this morning that would open a given assembly, walk the inheritance tree of classes in the assembly, and provide a list of classes in the assembly that inherit from DataSet. Here is a snippet from the routine I came up with: ------------------------------------------------------------ openFileDialog.ShowDialog(); Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFile(openFileDialog.FileName);

Hi guys I am developing a plugin-enabled application, and for that I am using reflection. I created an abstract ("MustInherit") class, from which all plugins must inherit. My question is... How do I make sure the .dll the users select are actually plugins? I'm currently enforcing a policy where the concrete plugins need to have a certain string somewhere in the classe's name, but that is not at all a good idea...

I know this has to be answered in the archives somewhere, but the search results are just confusing me more :-( Anyways, I authored a control library that contains an Interface definition and then some usercontrols that implement that interface. In a separate project I want to load the dll and then load the usercontrols onto tabpages on my form. I just cannot seem to figure out how to cast the usercontrols into the interface type so I...

Hi folks, Who can explain me why the following expression does not result in getting the correct type, but null: Type t = Type.GetType("System.Xml.XmlReader"); For "System.String" it works as well as for "System.IO.Stream" or "System.Globalization.CultureInfo". Does that related to the constructor of XmlReader being not public?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
