Dear reader, In an attempt to obtain the path to the quick-launch-folder in order to create a shortcut to my application-updates during installation , I thought to: 1- check if quick launch is used by the user 2- check if a link to my application is there 3- if so, obtain the path (ANY PATH) to the quick-launch-folder from existing button(s)

Recently there was a discussion in this group about how to retrieve the file name given a FILE *. The question raised my curiosity, and after some research I have come up with a good implementation. The solution is in the tutorial for lcc-win32 (http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~lcc-win32) page 331.

Hi, I'm currently successfully retrieving the list of computers connected on the differents domains of our network via the System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry class. What I'd like to have in addition of the computers name is their comment (just like when you browse over your network places on XP). The only way I found is querying the description field of

Im using the "If FileExists("\\oldpc\main share\Folder\file.txt") Then" way of finding if the file exists, but i want to make it so that it tries to look for the computer, not the file. At the moment this is how i am finding and copying the file: If FileExists("\\oldpc\main share\Folder\file.txt") Then FileCopy "\\oldpc\main...

Background: I have someone who uses Windows XP and software he bought for a cash register. He also has an online order form. When someone orders something online, we'd like for the XP box to retrieve that order and print it. Since I haven't coded for Windows in years, someone may know of something built into XP that already does this. Or, perhaps, some free program. Just found out wget was available on Windows. What I was thinking of...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
