Datagrid Databind "System.FormatE xception: Input string was not in a correct format"

G'day all,

Thank you in advance for anyone that can help.

I have a shopping cart datagrid on my c# asp.net page.
This is the code:

-------------------------------------

<asp:datagrid id="grdShopping Cart" OnItemDataBound ="ItemDB"
ShowFooter="Tru e" AutoGenerateCol umns="False" Runat="server"
BorderStyle="No ne" Width="788px" GridLines="None ">
<ItemStyle Font-Size="X-Small" Height="50px"
BackColor="Whit e"></ItemStyle>
<HeaderStyle Font-Size="X-Small" Font-Names="Arial" Height="35px"
ForeColor="Whit e" BackColor="DimG ray"></HeaderStyle>

<Columns>
<asp:TemplateCo lumn HeaderText="Bas e Part#">
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:Label Runat="server" ID="Product"><% #DataBinder.Eva l(Container,
"DataItem.produ ct_nm")%></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>
<asp:BoundColum n DataField="cart _product_unit_c ost" HeaderText="Uni t
Cost" DataFormatStrin g="{0:C}"></asp:BoundColumn >
<asp:TemplateCo lumn HeaderText="Qty ">
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:TextBox Width="90px" Runat=server
Text='<%#DataBi nder.Eval(Conta iner, "DataItem.cart_ product_qty")%> '
ID="Quantity" /> </ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>
<asp:BoundColum n DataField="cart _product_total_ cost" HeaderText="Uni t
Total Cost"></asp:BoundColumn >
</Columns>
</asp:datagrid>

------------------------------------- << This works

But when I try to add another column like

<asp:TemplateCo lumn HeaderText="Des cription">
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:TextBox Runat=server Text='<%#DataBi nder.Eval(Conta iner,
"DataItem.produ ct_desc")%>' ID="Description " /> </ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>

it errors with a System.FormatEx ception: Input string was not in a
correct format.
I've even tried entering a simple.

<asp:TemplateCo lumn HeaderText="Des cription">
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:TextBox Runat=server Text='This is a description'
ID="Description " /> </ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>

Can anyone enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong? I guess I can rule
out any database stuff because even if I type the static description it
errors as well.

Any advice or help would really be appreciated.
Kind regards,
Brian

One user of my application is experiencing an exception "input string not in correct format". But it makes no sense where it is occurring. It is occurring when a string from a textbox ("172") is being convert to an Int16 (using Convert.ToInt16). How can that be? There are other text boxes that are used in the identical fashion and they don't generate the exception. All there are many other machines running my application that don't...

Hi I'm running into a scenario with a DataSet that has a schema loaded into it, tries to then load data (that matches the schema), and fails with a "Input string was not in a correct format" exception because the decimal field in one of the incoming fields is written in exponential form. I've looked at generating the XML with a fully written decimal value (as opposed to using exponential notation) but that's an issue because right now the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
