How to run a custom tool as part of the build

I've just installed a custom tool (actually ResourceClassGe nerator from
http://www.codeproject.com/dotnet/Re...sGenerator.asp) which is added
as a custom tool to a .resx file. However, it seems to be necessary to run it
manually by right-clicking the .resx file and selecting "run custom tool".
Surely there must be a way of making it run automatically as part of the
build. Anyone know?

Hi Dave,

Custom tools are executed every time when the file it is connected to
changes / is saved (in this case the resx file). So there is no need
imho for executing the custom tool again.

You're right. Sorry to waste your time. I was expecting it to run as part of
the build, I never even noticed that it runs every time I save.

Assume that you would like to create a custom collection class that is: 1. Strongly-typed (only holds Customer objects) 2. Read-only (user cannot add Customer objects) 3. Able to be bound to a winforms datagrid (must implement the IList interface). What would be a good way to create this class? 1. The CollectionBase abstract base class can be used, but it is not

I am porting an instrumentation tool from linux to Visual C/C++. We designed the tool to be a replacement for the compiler. The tool takes c/c++ files and instruments (adds code) and pipes the new code through the original compiler. Is there a way in Visual Studio to change the compiler that gets used during a build, or is it hard-coded to use cl.exe? Custom build tool doesn't work very well because the user loses the ability

Hello, I use a COM-based ActiveX control as part of a C# Controls project. Part of this control is a ListView, and the ActiveX control has a property that returns the ListItems of this control. Hi all, This is my first time trying to creaet and use a custome Web Control in a Web Site project in ASP.NET 2.0 with VS 2005 and VB. I created the control in a separate Web Control Library project. The original code for that control was written in VS 2003 for .NET 1.1. I created a Web Project and pulled the VB module into the project. I compared the syntax to the VB template classs that was built and it looked very similar. I then...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
