Hi, all.
When reading C++ books, I'm alway confused by those terms "redefining
functions", "overloading functions" and "overriding functions".
Please give me some comments on those terms. Thanks.
If giving more strategy hehind them, more helpful.
Best Regards,

Question is as in subject.
For example:
class BaseClass {
public:
void func() { do something; } // I don't want this function being
overloaded in its inherited class
};

Hello everybody,
I'm new to C++ (I have some C background). I've read up on this topic a
few times but it just dosen't seem to be sinking in.
1. Whats the difference between overloading and overriding?
2. When is one preferable to use as opposed to the other?
3. How are virtual functions related to this topic
(overloading/overriding) - a real world example of using virtual
functions would be very much appreciated.

I don't get it. What's the main differences between overriding a base
class's methods vs. hiding them?
Thanks,
/m

I am confused about the purpose of 'new' in overriding.
Consider following example.
<code_snippet>
using console = System.Console;
public class TestClass
{
public static void Main()
{

What is the purpose of hiding intead of overriding a method? I have googled
the question but haven't found anything that makes any sense of it.
In the code below, the only difference is that when the Poodle is upcast to
the Dog (in its wildest dreams) it then says "bow wow" where the bernard
always says "woof" (see code). Basically, it appears that I'm hiding the
poodle's speak method from everything except the poodle.
Why would I...

I have a question about overriding i was wondering if anyone could
help me with, or even suggesting a better/different way. I have no
idea if this can even be done or not.
I was wondering if there was anyway to force a class to call a base
class's method that it is overriding? Almost the same way you have to
call a base class's constructor if it has arguments.
(example ** assuming the Person class's constructor has (string
FirstName) as...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
