SharpDevelop gui

I've been using VS 2003 to develop applications for an employer whom I am
leaving. Looking around for a free development GUI I came across
SharpDevelop. Before I install this, I would like some feedback from
someone who has used both VS and #Develop.

How does it compare for debugging? WinForm design? WebForm design?
Intellisense? Code creation (eg. auto-insert of interface stubs)?

Thanks for any input,
Scott

Hi all, I am diving into the great topic of C# development and found the GPLed #develop IDE *very* nice. My system is a WinXP Home box with XP SP2 Platform SDK (full), .Net Framework SDK. Compiling C# sources works out of the box but having problems with C++. An error msg pops up stating that the cl.exe cannot be found due

In SharpDevelop, there is a lovely utility called assembly scout which allows you to search through all the namespaces for members and namespaces equal to your search criteria. I have looked for the similar kind of functionality in 2003 but yet to find it (object browser is similar but you cannot search and doesnt have the same kind of functionality). Am I looking in the wrong place for it OR as I suspect it is just not there? Cheers.

Hey, I have a question for those developers here using Sharpdevelop. I just recently started using Sharpdevelop, but I keep getting errors regarding assembly references. I have used the 'assembly scout' to locate the assembly dll's however when I run compile I get the same errors notably; PoolGame.cs(7,17): error CS0234: The type or namespace nae 'DirectX' does not exist in the class or namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly...

How do I get to the familiar (for me at least) Form GUI in #D? The basic Form development grid, with the orthogonal snap-to dots laid out onscreen? The one where I can then turn around and pull button controls and check boxes onto it? All I see is code windows. While we're on the subject, where is the Toolbox? I've looked high and low, repeatedly, for any evidence of a Toolbox in the menu. Nothing.

Would appreciate and comments anyone has that has used both SharpDevelop and M'soft's VS.Net IDE to develop applications. Like what are the shortcomings of SharpDevelop? -- Dennis in Houston

hello! i have read somewhere, that the fact, that mono doesn't implement 100% of windows.forms, is the reason, that sharpdevelop doesn't run with mono (under linux). this site, http://www.mono-project.com/WinForms_CodeOwners however, tells me, that windows.forms (.net 1.1) under mono is nearly complete.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
