Although I have programmed for several decades I am new to Java. I decided
to learn it to create Applets to use in web pages I make as a volunteer in
the computer club at a seniors' centre.
My current learning project is to divide a picture into rows and columns of
squares, then redisplay the picture with these squares positioned randomly
in the rows and columns.
In an applet I have stored the original picture as an image, divided it...

Hi,
I have an inherited DataGrid, that does lots of extra stuff. For exemple
drawing a backgroundimage in every cell. The problem is that it's taking too
much time (using gdi+), so I want to do it using DirectX. I downloaded
already the DSK etc, but I can't find how I need to draw an image on a given
position. I don't need stuff to write advanced 3D-games, just painting that
image. Can anybody help me with this? I'm already looking for...

How would you go about create a web control that allows you to upload
images and limit the dimensions (width/height) of the image? The
control may be put on any page, which may not contain the correct
EncType (multipart/form-data), so I would want it to set the EncType of
the form.
Can a control be done that extends on an already existing control - the
one I have in mind is MetaBuilder FileUpload control...

Hey everyone. I have this function in my form called "Display", which I
call every time the load, resize, and paint events are called. It works
fine on paint and resize, but on load it doesnt happen.
When the form loads, it draws what I want, but then after a few
milliseconds it disappears. It's being drawn over by something else.
What's drawing over it?
I've tried using SetStyle, and setting UserPaint and
AllPaintingInWmPaint, and...

I notice in VB 2005 that I can set a form to be double-buffered just by
setting that option to true in the Form properties. I have a panel on
that form but there doesn't appear to be a double-buffered property for
the panel control.
My first question: is the double buffering set on the form inherited by
the panel control or do I have to do the old fashioned manual
double-buffering with the panel?
I've noticed that animation I render...

Hi,
I have seen loads of different ways to do this, but the all seem to
yield the same result - text that doesn't flicker when it's moving too
slowly!
Does anyone know 'the best way' to make text scroll...
eg
Override OnPain and OnPaintBackground
Override WndProc

Hi,
I have been trying to get text to scroll smoothly accross a windows form
using GDI+ and a timer. Changing the position of the text by a configurable
amount and calling invalidate to force a redraw at various intervals ( based
on the timer ). The text is not moving that smoothly, it seems very jerky,
no matter what combination of timings and pixel amounts to move so I have
looked at other code and posts and they all seem to have the...

I forget how to fix this.. But whenever I draw to the ListBox with
DrawItem, it flickers. Double Buffering etc. do not work.
I remember fixing this once and I had to use some Windows API function.
I don't remember how I fixed it though, so does anyone know a possible
solution to this? thanks

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
