custom control ASP.NET page question

I would like to have the capability to create a variable on a ASP.NET page on
the fly via a custom control. This way after the control declaration, the
ASP.NET script can access the variable.

It would be something like this:

<custom:mycontr ol id=something/>

<%=customvalue% >

Where customvalue is the name of the variable created by the control.

Is this possible?

Thanks...

Hey everyone, I am curious what the performance impact of a custom control would be if it had a significant hierarchy of children. For example, 40 child controls, 5 levels deep, each control on average has 20 properties. What would be the best way to implement such a thing? The book I am reading uses templated controls and basically...

Hi, I had an aspx pag in .Net 1.1 with a label on it. As such I had a code behind page with a declaration for that label. When I convert to Asp.Net 2.0 the code behind is converted to a partial class and the declaration for the label is removed. This is what I expected to happen and I understand why it has happened. The problem I have...

Hi, I'm new in web parts, I would like to understand a couple of things: Let's say I have a custom control that displays information. That info is fed to the control through an XML string, so the control parses it and builds itself. Now that XML is obtained in the parent page, by calling a c# dll that deals with the database tier. ...
