string by itself can be accessed as an array of chars
*************** *************** ***
string s = "1a3345";
char c = s[1];
Console.WriteLi ne(c);
*************** *************** ***
will give you "a" as an output

I'm a novice with c/c++ and have been reading Eckel's book. I'd like some feedback on using this method. What I need to do is treat a string as numeric data. I know how to write functions to convert between data types, but was thinking that this isn't really necessary since I can access the memory directly in c. I want to treat the text as native integer so that I can perform fast bit-level manipulations. This code works fine...but I'm...

I have a char array and when I write it to a file using BinaryWriter the position of the pointer is the size of the array + 1. For example: writing char leaves the pointer at position 26 after starting at position 0. I thought that char was 2 bytes, but this makes it seem as though it is just 1 when I write to a file. Why is this? I imagine the extra bit is just a null bit (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know if this helps but when I...

Hi there! I've been having a lot of difficult trying to figure out a way to convert a terminated char array to a system::string for use in Visual C++ .NET 2003. This is necessary because I have some legcay C code that needs to process a string taken from a textbox, then I need to re-display the string as the textbox->Text. I easily found how to convert from system::string to char but I can't figure out how to go the other way!!

hi, wrote the following program to learn a bit about auto pointers. weird thing is, the char array 'name' with size 'max_size' displays a bunch of messed up symbols after the "John Smith" if max_size is larger than 28. why is that? I found this out by playing with max_size after I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. thx a bunch

How do I copy the content of a string in one encoding (in my case big5) to a char array of the same encoding? I try the following String line = S"123æ°´æ³¥"; char buffer; for(int i=0; i<line->get_length(); i++) {

Hello. I have the following code, to do a simple operation by copying the elements of a vector of strings into an array of char pointers. However, when I run this code, the first element in the char array strarr holds garbage characters. For some reason, every time the strcpy function is called to copy the string in temp to the array, it fills the 0th element in the strarr array with garbage characters. Can someone try to compile this...

Hello everyone. Heads up - c++ syntax is killing me. I do quite well in creating a Java program with very few syntax errors, but I get them all over the place in c++. The smallest little things get me, which brings me to... I'm trying to create a program that gets a string from standard input and then manipulates it a little bit. It has to be a char array and not use string from the library. Here are my prototypes:

Hi experts, I'm from a Verilog HDL background and trying to learn C. There are a lot of similarities between Verilog and C but the concept of char arrays and strings has me confused. I'd appreciate any help or pointers here. This is the code, nothing fancy, just basic experiments around char array and string, #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int main() {

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
