Suggestions for further reading...

Hello All,

I need some material for the reading room. Specifically, I'm interested
in gaining a well-rounded education in regards to OOP and all its
associations.

I've gobbled up as much as I can about C# and the tactical aspects of
the language and can hack together a respectable attempt at a
functional, working program but I feel that, in order to move to the
next stage of professional development, I need more thoery.

So.... Could I impose upon the group to recommend some reading material.
Not to be too demanding, but it would be ideal if the material was C#
centric as I have never coded a line of Java, however, I also realize
that there is a wealth of important material available that uses Java,
Smalltalk, C++, as example code due to the chronology of the literature
on the topic.

Again, I'm already loaded up on syntactical material. What I'm looking
for is more theoretical. Kind of a Canon of OOP literature.

Thanks

Hello- I, the inquirydog, would like to solicit suggestions for a new web page I am making: I am creating a simple website that will translate concepts between windows os's, Linux, and the Java language with all of its related technologies. The website is at http://members.dslextreme.com/users/inquirydog, and is a mock-version of the Rosetta stone, which indicates concepts from each "platform"

Hi, Could some kind person using Mac or Linux (or others) please take a look at http://www.mlynarczyk-webdesign.de/tmp/menu/menu.html and tell me if the page renders as it should (screenshot provided on the page)? Never mind the colors, this is just to test the functionality. The page validates (HTML & CSS), and seems to "work" as expected on Windows (IE5+, OP5+, NN5+, Mozilla & Firefox). I know the styles won't work on IE4

Hi All, I'm just looking for some suggestions on a good book that will cover the C++ standard well. I Know C (quite) well, and learnt this language by reading as much source code as possible and using Herbert Schildt's C The Complete Reference (4th Edition) as a reference where needed. I was thinking about purchasing C++: The Complete Reference (4th Edition) and attempting to learn C++ in a similar way.

I was just thinking about this, specifically wondering if there's any features that the C specification currently lacks, and which may be included in some future standardization. Of course, I speak only of features in the spirit of C; something like object-orientation, though a nice feature, does not belong in C. Something like being able to #define a #define would be very handy, though, e.g: #define DECLARE_FOO(bar) #define...

Hi, I've come across a bug in CSV where the csv.reader() raises an exception if the input line contains '\r'. Example code and output below shows a test case where csv.reader() cannot read an array written by csv.writer(). I believe this is a known bug and may have been fixed for Python 2.5. However I'm after suggestions for workarounds for Python 2.4.2.

List, I'm looking for C links for Standard C for a website targeting professional SW engineers. Intent is to have a convenient reference to Standard C, particularly for those who come from backgrounds with a good bit of specialized extensions. I've plenty of Standards for my industry--a subset of embedded systems work, but I need more good, "Standard, no extensions" links, as increasingly in the embedded world standards dictate just...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
