uint with SqlParameter overflow

Hi,

I'm trying to call a stored procedure using SqlCommand and SqlParameters. My problem is this:

I have a uint that is set to the value: 0xffff0000. When I try to assign it to a SqlParameter of type SqlDbType.Int and execute the stored procedure I get the following error:

System.Overflow Exception: Value was either too large or too small for an Int64.

This is probably since the type SqlDbType.Int represents a signed 32 bit integer and my large unsigned integer is overflowing. Howerver, I can't a way to insert this value into the database using SqlParameters.

Is there a way?

(I have the same problem with a ulong set to 0xffff000000000 000 using SqlDbType.BigIn t)

Thanks,
Rein

Let's assume you are developing a database application and you have an ID field. You setup the ID field in the database as a 1 up increment starting at zero. Whenever I see programs, everyone always uses the int field to represent the userID. Should this really be a uint since the field will never be negative, only positive? Is there a performance penalty using the uint type? Furthermore, let's say I am building an application...

Can anyone explain me why it is neccesary to include SqlDbType to the SqlParameter. In every example I see, it is done, but no one explaines why. I have for example a date I want to save into my Sql Server database through a stored procedure-call. In the database it is defined as a SmallDateTime. Every 3 methods in the client-code below gives the same (and correct) result. So why is it that important? dim param As SqlParameter

Hi, Just wondering what are the dis/advantages of using uint vs int. When would be the best time to use it? Personally I don't use uint that much, but I like to optimize my code and make it as effective as possible. So I feel that using an int where only an uint is needed is a waste. e.g. something like (int i = 0; i < 100; i++)

Hi, The SqlParameter myPM =new SqlParameter("@Address", txtAddress.Text) is working for update, but SqlParameter myPM =new SqlParameter ("@Address",SqlDbType.NVarChar,90,txtAddress.Text) is not working. The Address column is DataType NVarChar 90, no problem. Any idea?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
