multidimensiona l ArrayList?

is it possible? if so - how would you do it?

The existing ArrayList cannot be used as a
multidimensiona l array directly, however you could make it
act like one if you had it store ArrayLists... so your
code would look something like:

ArrayList myList = new ArrayList();
myList.Add( new ArrayList() );
myList.Add( new ArrayList() );

((ArrayList)myL ist[0])[1].Add(dataObj);

Quite an ugly solution I know. If the ugly typecasting and
hacking isn't your thing on the surface, your only other
choice would be to build your own class.

No, but you can store ArrayList objects inside an ArrayList (making it
somewhat like a jagged array).

I know that it looks terrible all that casting.

How do you create a multidimensional array using ArrayList? I'm asking this because I can't have a static size except for the width. The length will continue to grow.

Hi, How can I declare and instantiate a multidimensional array that I need to return after having populated it from a DB. Here is the code: string g = new string; int i = 0; while(rdr.Read()) { g = rdr.GetString(1) + " " + rdr.GetString(2); g = Convert.ToString(rdr.GetInt32(0)) + "~" +

Hi NewsGroup; Trying to construct a Multidimensional (2D more specifically) populated from an OleDbDataReader. Reason I'm using an ArrayList is I do not know the size of the first dimension (being rows), here's my final attempt below; System.Collections.ArrayList GetDataMatrix = New System.Collections.ArrayList; //Let's just say 10, 3 Keeping it brief and simple excuse the syntax,

I'm very new to using C# in an ASP.NET application, and am used to using the ADO GetRows() method to quickly dump data into a multidimensional array in classic ASP. I am trying to work through using the ArrayList class in ASP.NET to perform a similar role, but am having difficulty in understanding and knowing how to access the data once it has been placed in an ArrayList.

Hi folks, New C# programmer here. I am reading some CSV data from a file into an ArrayList. I want to get the data from the ArrayList into a 2-dimensional array. I see a few references to ..Split, but I'm not sure that's what I need. So, basically, what I have loaded into the ArrayList is:

Hi there, Just wondering, if there is any way to have a dynamic / unspecified size of an array? It obviously needs to be updated, deleted etc. The only way I thought is by making the array massive at the start? Any other ideas? Apparently Hashtable, ArrayList etc are useless as they all take one dimension. :( Please help me! Thanks, Naomi

Well, conceptually this is what I want to do. I was hoping to use an ArrayList to build a (dynamic) array of string arrays, and then bind the ArrayList object to a DataGrid. I can do that, but it doesn't give me the results that I wanted. Is there a way to successfully do this? I even tried to bind a multidimensional array (string ) to a DataGrid, but an exception is thrown with the message "Array was not a one-dimensional array". I'm...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
