Socket Exception question..

Hi,

I'm writing a client/server app.

I want to run my server on "Windows Server 2003" PC.

This PC has two network cards. 1 for Internet and other is plugged into
a switch. My plan is that I'll connect 2 or 4 PC to the switch and the
server
PC will give out DHCP IP address.

I have configured DHCP server and set the IP range, for example,
192.168.1.0-192.168.1.10. and subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. It seems that
DHCP is doing its job. I mean, when I conneted 2 PC to the switch, they are
getting valid IP addresses, for example, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2. and they
can ping each other as well.

However when I run my server on the server with IP for example,
192.168.1.0, and client on 192.168.1.1/1.2, I'm unable to connect.
I'm getting socket exception with additional information saying the remote
server actively refused the connection..

Could you please let me know where did I stuff up.
Cheers,

Naveen.

Sounds like a pretty normal LAN setup to me
If error message says the remote server actively refused connection, then
are you sure your server has opened the port and is listening?
Checked the ports are open with command prompt netstat -an?
Checked that software firewall isn't blocking the port?
Checked that client and server ports are using the same protocol (tcp/udp
etc)
Checked that client is attempting to connect to correct port?

Hi,

Thanks for your post.

My code wasn't opening the port at all when I used "netstat -an".
I could fix the problem. Now my prog is working fine.
Cheers,

Naveen.

Dear all, following are some piece of my code (mainly create a socket connection to server and loop to receive data): # function to create and return socket def connect(): server_config = ('192.168.1.50', 3333); sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) try: sock.connect()

Does anyone know the scope of the socket.setdefaulttimeout call? Is it a cross-process/system setting or does it stay local in the application in which it is called? I've been testing this and it seems to stay in the application scope, but the paranoid side of me thinks I may be missing something... any confirmation would be helpful.

I've read many articles on the subject and the majority of them give the same solution that's in article 821625 on the MSDN website. I'm using the following code and when a the client disconnects the child socket remains in the CLOSE_WAIT state. Anyone have any idea what's missing? ----------------------------- Socket Code ----------------------------- namespace Sockets { #region Class - SocketClient

Hello Fellow Developer, I use the System.Net.Sockets to send/receive data (no tcpclient/tcplistener), I made a receivethread in my wrapper, the receivethread loops/sleeps while waiting for data and then fires a datareceived event. Within the waitingloop there is a timeout function, but I want the the 'last-time-socket-used' variable set when the socket is finished sending. When I send by System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Send(buffer()) (<--this...

Hi, I try to implement a reusable socket class to send and receive data. It seems to work but I have 2 problems : 1) I rely on Socket.Available to detect that the connection is closed (no more data to expect). Sometimes, Socket.Available returns 0 but the other end of the connection did not close it ! 2) This class will be used by many other classes so I have to use the

My app has an asynchronous socket server. It will have 20 clients connected to the server. Each client sends data every 500 millisecondsThe Connections once established will not be closed unless there is a problem with the connection. I need to know which client has sent the incoming data as each client has its own buffer on my "server" app. I am using the standard asynch socket code from MSDN to listen for connections and they...

I have a sync socket application. The client is blocked with Socket.Receive(...) in a thread, another thread calls Socket.Close(). This unblock the blocked thread. But the socket server is still connected. Any idea? Thanks.

Hi, I'm currently working with sockets. I accept connections using m_mySocket.Listen(BackLogCount); But when I want to stop listening, I shutdown all my clients and call m_mySocket.Close(), but it always raise a OnConnect event (actually, it calls the callback function as if there was a new connection attempt) and I receive a ObjectDisposedException as soon as I do m_mySocket.EndAccept. Does anyone have any idea of what I could do about...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
