ArgumentExcepti on when call WindowsPrincipa l.IsInRole

I receive multiple (handled) ArgumentExcepti ons when I call
WindowsPrincipl e.IsInRole. The exception text is:

A first chance exception of type 'System.Argumen tException' occurred in
mscorlib.dll

Additional information: Item has already been added.
Key in dictionary: "DOMAINNAME\use rGroup"
Key being added: "DOMAINNAME\use rGroup"

where DOMAIN is the domain of the group I am querying for, and userGroup
seems to be each group in the domain (which is large).

My code is as follows:

//this is called when the application first starts
AppDomain.Curre ntDomain.SetPri ncipalPolicy(Pr incipalPolicy.W indowsPrincipal );

public static bool UserIsInRole(st ring roleName)
{
WindowsPrincipa l principal = (WindowsPrincip al)Thread.Curre ntPrincipal;
return principal.IsInR ole(roleName);
}

The exceptions are handled, as I am only notified when I turn on the break
on all exceptions IDE option. I am using framework 1.1.

This isn't a problem as such, I am just wondering if anyone else has
experienced this.

Thanks
Dan

My objective is simply: Notify a form when a image file has been created in a directory. First there is a basic interface for the callback function: public interface INewImageNotify { void notify_NewImage(string imageName); } Then there is the delegate:

Hello, username=user.identity.name trueFalse=User.IsInRole("myDomain\Administrators")? First line return user name as administrator but second line returns false? What might be the reason? Or how does isInRole work? Thanks, Jim.

I am writing a webService that is going to be accessed anonymously (I don't want to "configurable" depend on windows integrated authentication). But I still want to authenticate the client (or rather the user using the client). Because of this I want to send the WindowsPrincipal from the client to the webService in the SoapHeader. I don't want to send the credentials (userName, password and domain) because I want the client to be unaware...

This a bit of a second post on same subject, my apologies. IsinRole function only works with built-in roles. If I create a new group on my domain controller then add an existing user to that group, user bob, group TestUsers and then try to determine if My.user.Isinrole("TestUsers") I always get a false, which is incorrect. If I put Bob as part of Administrators or any other built-in group on the DC and look at...

Hi, I've developed a Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2003. I built an MSI package using the setup and deployment projects setup wizard. I ran the MSI package on my machine (where I developed the application) to install it and I can run the application just fine. I deployed it on another machine but when I ran the application I get an error: Login Failed for user OFFICE\Display Wenzl. I have Sub Main as my startup project and...

Hi, I have an app that is crashing due to a System.ArgumentException. At this point it's just a simple app to test some basic object values. The main app is a Windows App that looks like this. I use the following function to ascertain if the current user is in ann AD security group. It appears to work, except if the group contains any space characters, it always returns false. For example I am a member of groups "NWDeveloper" and "IT Development" if I call the function CurrentUserInRole(@"DOMAIN\NWDeveloper"); it returns true, however CurrentUserInRole(@"DOMAIN\IT Development"); it returns false. I need to be able to...

Hi, I currently have my application setup and built using Windows Authentication (WindowsPrincipal). For security checks, I simply do an IsInRole call on the Principal. The role permissions are hard- coded, something like this: private static string allowedReadRoles = new string { "Sales", "Ordering" };

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
