Hello,
I've got a VERY strange network problem with Win2k Server and .NET.
I've got one central server (hub) getting raw binary data (files)
from many locations. Both server and clients are written in C#
The server is quite simple: two threads, one accepts new
connections and decides whether the client is authenticated to send data
or not, and the other thread serves already connected clients: performs
a Socket.Select and then gets one file from each client that is ready to
send data. Reading data uses Socket.Poll method so that I can set up a
timeout (to avoid DOS) on receiving.
On Win2k3 everything works well, but on Win2k Server the hub gets
files that have correct size but bad data inside: there comes the
beginning part of file (correct data), a sequence of zero bytes (about
200-300 bytes long) and then the rest of the data, up to the requested size.
The communication protocol is simple: client sends a fixed byte and
then four bytes of file length, after that file data. The server
verifies the fixed byte has correct value, reads the size, and then as
many bytes of file data as the client specified. So when the sequence of
zeros gets read the real file gets truncated and whole communication is
broken.
What can cause such a strange behaviour? Select? Poll? Anything else?
Thanks for any advice,

Hello,
I have seen something strange on a customer's computer.
It is a P4 3 GHz with 512 MB Ram running on a Win2K SP3
When he uses a part of my application, it is really slow (more than 10
sec for something that I do in 1 sec. (in VB6) with an older computer),
he also have a second computer where it is really fast (one second too).
When I look at in the task manager, it seem that Idle process is always
in between 80 and 99%

I am getting strange print-related error messages when trying to
create (not print!) reports. For example, when I click 'new' to create
a report then choose 'design view', I get an error message that says:
'There was a problem retrieving printer information for this object.
The object may have been sent to a printer that was unavailable.'
When I choose 'report wizard', I can go through all of the steps but
then I get an error message...

We've been supporting a number of Access applications for a particular
client for some years. Some of them were written by third parties,
some by us (even one or two by me, though not this particular one).
Recently they switched from a Novell network to Microsoft Active
Directory, and this is causing some strange behaviour in some of the
Access apps. In particular, one mission-critical one, written in
Access 97, with an Access 97 back...

I have a strange situation, and I'm not sure even where to start
troubleshooting. I have a client who has a small network - 6
workstations, one server running Windows 2003 Server Standard edition.
They have an Access 2003 database that sits on this server. They have no
password protection on the access database - everybody has full access to
it.
We setup shortcuts on each persons desktop to the access database using
UNC paths (instead...

Hello all,
There's this problem I have, which I am unable to find a solution for. The problem is this: I cannot post messages with a specific size on (certain) forums. I hear you thinking: what has this to do with networking? Before I get burned to the stake, please hear me out.
I have recently plugged a wireless router on my (wireless) modem because my modem could only be configured as a DHCP server and was not able to forward any traffic...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
