I recently got into a discussion with a co-worker about using enums across a
dll interface. He wanted to use chars instead, argueing that depending on
compiler settings the size of an enum could change and lead to memory
corruption. I didn't see how this was possible. He claims that if a dll
built for a program is built with different compiler settings than the
launcher program, the enum size could change.
The only way I could figure...

Hi,
I am using structs and am also using property accessors to access those
private member fields... TO me this is a good way of handling them, but I
find alot of people using direct access to the struct memebers, since
structs is just a type similar to a class (with differences I know) why
should I allow direct access like that... I looked at the Size and other
parts on Control etc and I find its the same way by using property...

Extracting an Icon and Placing It On The Desktop (C# Language)
I constructed a suite of programs in C++ several years ago that handle my
financial portfolio, and now I have converted them to C#. The only
significant problem that I have encountered in the conversion is this one -
extracting an icon from the 'KTEntryPoint' program into the software suite
and placing that icon on the PC Desktop.

Could someone outline the pros and cons of typedefing pointers to
structs like this?
typedef struct exp_ {
int val;
struct exp_ *child;
} *exp;
(This is straight from memory so it might not even compile.)

Hi,
Can someone explain why you can't declare enums in an interface?
The compiler says "interfaces can't declare types"
Ignoring the syntax implications it seems to me that you should be able to
declare that an enum exists. i.e. It is within the 'spirit' of an interface
to state that it exists. The implementing class will provide the members.
e.g. I have a code library that performs a function.
It exposes two interfaces which allow for...

I'm really confused by the difference between a Struct and a Class?
Sometimes, I want just a group of fields to go together. A Class
without methods seems wrong, in that it carries too much overhead (I
think). A Struct seems more appropriate. At least it is what I would
have used in other languages. But since a Struct *can* hold methods,
I wander if I am saving anything. If not, why use it?

Hi,
I'm writing a CLI layer into my application, and I have several ref
structs. Now, I've come into a situation that screams for a common
interface, but because the structs are ref, I didn't see a reason why
I couldn't have the structs implementing this interface. ANd it does
work, but I'm concerned about the reprecussions of doing this. Is
this good programming practice? And what will the resulting struct
translate to in c#. I...

If I try compiling this in gcc, it says: "error: request for member
`baz' in something not a structure or union".
Any workarounds or tips on how to make a structure such that it
behaves like an enum but its members can be addressed with '.'?
I don't want to have to do this using #defines, as it would be far too
messy.
code:
static struct {
static const int baz = 1;
} bar;

Hello, I'm looking for an hash function to be used for an hash table
that will contain structs of a certain kind. I've looked into
Sourceforge.net, but so far I've found only hash functions for strings
(string->index)...Do you know if there exist such a function
somewhere?
Thanks

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
