Hi,
Does anybody know where this term comes from?
"First-class object" means "something passable as an argument in a
function call", but I fail to see the connection with "object class"
or with "first-class airplane ticket". I just find the name a bit
strange. Also, if there are first-class objects, what would the
second-class objects or economy/tourist class objects be? :)

I am trying to convert a field within my Oracle 9i Database that is of
type BLOB (but this BLOB may contain a combination of clobs/varchars or
images such as gif images, jpg images) to Microsoft SQL Server 2000
using Microsoft DTS.
On trying to perform this simple conversion I recieved the error "Need
to run the object to perform the operation - Exception Access
Violation" from Microsoft DTS and my table...

I am writing a ASP.NET web application that must sent some e-mails.
I get the exception “Could not access 'CDO.Message' object” when I call SmtpMail.Send. This only happens when I send e-mail addresses out side my company walls. When the e-mail is send on some one in my company it works perfect.
I think it is a relay issue. Our system administrator will not allow relaying.

I made a custom exception, derived from ApplicationException. If the
exception is thrown, the erroring web page shows the line of code where
I throw exception, and doesn't display the exception message. Do I
need to catch my custom exception, and rethrow it as another type of
exception to make the message display?
I still want to page to error out, I don't want to catch it and return

In my custom classloader i read the bytes using fileinputstream and constructed a class object using define class method.

If I pass a base class object by reference (likely does not make a
difference here that it is passed by reference) as a parameter to a
derived class member function, the member function is not allowed to
access the protected data members of the base object. This surprises
me.
Can someone explain why this is? I suspect there is a good reason and
I am just having a slow day to not come up with it myself.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
