Using a ListView to display database records

I'm using a ListView control in conjunction with a TreeView control to
display SqlServer database records. Clicking a Node in the TreeView
refreshes the ListView with the content of the associated record.
The ListView contains two columns; the first column contains a
user-friendly field name and the second column contains the data
content, with the first column being tied to an Item and the second
column declared as a SubItem.
This is all very well until I try and display Text data(i.e. retrievable
from SqlServer as up to 8,000 characters) as the SubItem. Whilst a word
wrap style can be declared for the Item, no such facility appears to
exist for SubItems, and as a consequnce these long fields are truncating
with "...", which undermines the whole point of using this approach.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can work around this to produce the
multi-line display I require, or should I be looking to using a datagrid
as an alternative solution?

Folks, I'm loading a listview on a form with Vehicle Data for a specified client. I also pass in a specific registration relating to a current client request. The record is displayed and the corresponding record in the listview appears selected. The problem I have is that if the number of records loaded in the listview can't all be displayed at once the listview won't auto scroll to display the selected record, the user would have to...

Hi all I am trying to Populate a combo box from a selection in an adjacent Listview. The Listview lists as a string the field names of 4 different fields in tblFile. So far I can populate the combo box with the correct number of records(only 4 in the test database) but the data is the actual string being passed which is actually the right field....just not the data in the field. Here is my code so far that fills the combo box with the...

I had a VB6 app that used a third party ListView control to simply display various recordsets. The control had a VirtualMode which I used for this display. Now in VB2005, I want to do the same with the native ListView to display various datasets in VirtualMode. I have a ListView with the VirtualListSize set and the appropriate columns in place which is all similar to the old VB6 app. However, the similarities end there as I can't find...

I am a .NET newbie, specifically WinForms. I have a simple Winform for which I have a "How To" question: My WinForm app will display data from a FoxPro database, two tables in particular: Patients, and Sessions. There is one record in the Patients table for each patient. The PatientID is the primary key. The sessions table contains all of the visits that all of the patients have made to the lab. There is a one-to-many relation between...

How do I get the DataPager and ListView to play nice together when I use a custom datasource? In my webpage, I use linq to pull data from a SqlServer database and assign the resulting IEnumerable<to the ListView's Datasource property. This all works fine to display the first 3 items (the DataPager is set to display three items at a time), but when I click on the next page in the DataPager...nothing happens. There's a roundtrip to the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
