This is long. Bear with me, as I will really go through all the convoluted
stuff that shows there is a problem with streams (at least when used to
redirect stdout).
The basic idea is that my application (VB.NET) will start a process,
redirect its stdout and capture that process' output, displaying it in a
window.
I've written a component for this, and a test application for the component.
It allows me to specify a command to execute,...

I am trying to write a program that I hope to get working as a
command-line app to start with, and then eventually use a windows
service wrapper to call it as a service. Its purpose is to attach
to an already running (not ours) service using an API DLL, where
it will do houskeeping and monitoring tasks.
This is where it all gets strange. Although I can make calls into
the API and do things proactively, when I register a callback for...

I have a NotifyIcon in my Windows Service project and I am trying to
add a ContextMenu to this NotifyIcon or use some of the mouse events.
Everything isn't working. I think so base class of the service
System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase don't catchWindows messages like mouse or
timer messages. Any Idea?
Thanks,

Hello all,
Wonder what approach is used for this problem.
I have a MDIApplication, the MDIClinets are to be in a seperate thread.
So I've done something like this,
// Create a new Show method that starts a new thread
public new void Show()
{
Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(ThreadProc));

I wonder can anyone reccomment a solution to this problem.
Let me explain, I've services running on my system, my
application receives diagnostic messages from these services, what i want to
do is create an MDIChild window for each service that is sending messages.
Ok so far so good, but I get problems if one service is constantly sending
messages to it's window because, this window is very busy updating it's view,
hence because it's...

I have a feeling I am missing something simple, but I just can't find it.
Perhaps someone can give me a lead on where to look. I will describe the
issue then post my code to the web service. My issue is simply getting
timers to work. I have a DatabaseManager.DataManagerFacade which contains a
timer. Every 6 seconds it updates stock data using an online webservice. I
wrote have 2 possible startup projects to make the service work. One...

I am trying to capture the Windows Authenticated username, but I want to be
able to capture the login name that exists in IIS, not Windows. In order to
enter my company's intranet through the internet, they have to login. I want
to be able to capture that login versus their Windows login because I need
to know who they are from any computer rather than only their computer. Any
ideas?
Thanks

I am trying to detect when a CD is inserted from a windows service. I
have went through the route of creating a hiden window and trying to
use the WndProc to detect the event; although the window does not seem
to be recieving the events that I need. I have also tried registering
the WM_SHNOTIFY event with my specific window and still do not recieve
the event.
Is there another method for recieving the CD insert event from within
a winows...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
