I'm looking for some kind of simple string compression code I can use. I'm
not looking for SharpZipLib. Their implimentation spans several classes and
is very complex. I'm just looking for something simple. A single class,
preferrably. Does such a thing exist? Thanks,
Chris

Hello, yes another beginner question that I'm sure is obvious to many here
:-)
My book is so bad. Really. It uses the exact same example of code for using
the new kw and for using virtual(in the base class) then override(in the
derived class), but fails to compare and contrast the two...
I've read this (short snippet)three times and by the looks of it they both
do exactly the same thing- allow you to derive from the base and save...

Hi all. I have a question about virtual and override methods. Please
forgive the elementary nature!
First off, let me quote Programming in the Key of C#: "Any virtual
method overridden with 'override' remains a virtual method for further
descendent classes."
Now here's my question: Let's say you have base class A, and
subclasses B and C. Class A contains a virtual method, and B contains
an override method. If C didn't have an...

Hi,
I am trying to use the property grid in an app I am creating. I am currently
using the examply I got from the codeproject site with the propertybags, if
that rings a bell. I have created a typeconverter that converts a string in
to a dropdown list, a common issue. I am now trying to get this list filled
with options coming out of my database instead of having to hard code them in
the code on the class side as for instance is done in...

Hi,
does anybody know a speedy analog of IsNumeric() to check for
strings/chars. I would like to check if an Object can be treated as a
string before using a Cstr(), clearly avoiding the time and resource
consuming Try... Catch, which in iterative processing is totally
unacceptable.

Hi all,
I am having a memory blank at the moment. I have been writing in C# for a
number of years and now need to do something in VB.NET, so forgive me such a
primitive question.
In C#, I test whether a string has a value or not by the following syntax:
if (thisString.Trim() == "")

Hi,
I am trying to write a code to build a string 768 characters long.
This string is going to be written to a file which is then read by
another application. The format of the string is already defined. For
example Firstname starts at position 20, Last Name at position 30,
address at position 40 etc... I am reading these data from sql
datasource and must substitute the values in the exact position
insuring that paramteres end up...

Hi everyone,
I have a textbox which is multiline and wordwrap is true.
I did not set any scrollbar because I want to show it manually (using different buttons)
The textbox will sometimes have double byte strings (chinese characters)
Question:
1) How can I know if I need to show the scrollbar base on the text inside the textbox?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
