Generics - when?

After reading all the info about Generics in C#, when are we going to get
them? Is this something planned for the Longhorn release, or sooner?

Thanks,

John

Hello,

Generics are not specific for Longhorn, and we will get it in the next
release of .NET Framwork. This should be the same time Visual Studio .NET
Whidbey is released, sometime next year.

I believe generics are supposed to be introduced with the next Major version
of the framework, something like Q4 2004 if I remember correctly

John, if you want them now you can get them in Gyro, which is a part of the
MS Shared Source CLI. You can find it here:

The next version of VS.Net (Whidbey) promises to add generics support to VB. I have a vague remembrance of Templates in C++, but I guess I need a refresher. What will generics allow us to do? Why do people spend so much time writing complex generic types? for fun? to learn? for use? I think of generics like I do about operator overloading. Great to have as a language-feature, as it defines the language more completely. Great to use.

This is a common problem with generics, but I hope someone has found the best way of solving it. I have these classes: "Fruit" which is a baseclass, and "Apple" which is derived. Further I have an "AppleBasket" which is a class that contains a collection of apples. So, some code: class Fruit{ }

I wasn't sure if I could do this. I believe I am stretching the capability of what generics can do for me but here goes. I have a generic delegate defined as public delegate bool RuleDelegate<T>(T item); In my class my goal is to use a generic list collection to contain my generic delegates. This will allow me to pass this List to...

Hi all I have some problems with Crystal Reports (Version 10.2, Runtime 2.0). In Section3 I have added a OLE Object (Bitmap). Now when I open the report in my code I would like to set this OLE Object (load a picture from a given path). Something like this I would expect: _reports.crImage local_Report = new _reports.crImage();
