Hi
In the following code sample, I have:
- a Worker class, which could have a lot of methods and attributes. In
particular, it has a 'bar' attribute. This class can be modified as needed.
- a Base class (old-style) which defines a default class attribute 'bar'
too. I can't modify the source code of this class. Note that Workes does
not inherit from Base.
- a Derived class which must inherit from Base and is a wrapper around
Worker: it...

Hi everyone,
(I already posted this to the VS.NET IDE news group without any responses, so I'm attempting one more time in this group)
The issue I'm having is occuring in the IDE of VS.NET 2003, although I'm not sure what is actually causing the problem. I can't
summarize the issue, so please read on to find out more.
I've created a BaseDialogEditor class that allows a developer (namely me) to create Modal editors for controls at...

Hello!!
Assume we have one base class called Vehicle and two derived classes called
Car and Bus.
I would be able to call method getName on an object of class Car or Bus and
return back the name that is set for this class. Asking getName on an object
of class Vehicle is of no interest. Assume we have an attribute called name
of type string.
Now to my question do you think it's right to put the name attribute in each

I am trying to mark an override method in a derived class as obsolete using
the ObsoleteAttribute. The compiler, however is not picking up this
attribute and is not generating a warning or an error.
Sample code is below:
If I put the attribute on the static method DoSomething() in the main class,
a warning/error is generated by the compiler.
If I put the attribute on the virtual instance method DoSomething() of

I have class that also uses a custom editor that, when compiled directly into
my project, works just fine in a propertygrid. However, it was necessary to
place that class into a DLL, hense the editor was also moved into the DLL and
compiled. The issue I have is the the editor is now inactive. Can someone
tell me why this may be?
Here is the code for the property in my class that uses the editor. This
code resides within the DLL.

In C++ an overridden virtual function in a derived class must have the exact
same signature of the function which is overridden in the base class, except
for the return type which may return a pointer or reference to a derived
type of the base class's return type.
In .NET the overridden virtual function is similar, but an actual parameter
of the function can be a derived reference from the base class's reference
also.
This dichotomy...

Hi there,
Is there a clean way to change a property or method's attribute in a derived
class without redefining the property/method itself. That is, redefining the
property/method in the derived class simply to change its attribute is ugly
IMO. I assume you can do this and then simply defer to the base class
version but it's unwieldy so I'm wondering if there's a better way. Thanks
in advance.

I've got a Base class with an attribute "foo" (of type Foo), and a
Derived class (derived from Base). In Derived's constructor, I try to
refer to Base.foo, but python complains:
AttributeError: class Base has no attribute 'foo'
Any ideas? (code below)

#!/usr/bin/python

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
