how does it e.newvalues work in asp.net 2.0

how does it e.newvalues work in asp.net 2.0? I am trying to use
e.newvalues collection in gridview rowupdating event. It's always
returning oldvalues. I am not sure why this collection is not looking
at the revised values. Can anyone help me?
