I wish to create two simple layouts by using only HTML, CSS and the minimum
JavaScript as possible. Layouts should be "elastic" (no fixed widths and
heights) and cross-browser enabled.
The first one is a non-scrollable page which contains a centered title and a
centered division with automatic scrolling on overflow, that is:
+---------------------+
| TITLE |
| +--------------++ |

In CSS3 it looks like we'll have multiple column flowing of text
(newspaper style) in which the number of columns can be determined
automatically given the available horizontal space.
http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-multicol/
Until then, what's the current best practice for achieving the same
effect? Or is it just not possible yet?
Thanks ...

I've read and understood the w3 specs on css1 and css2. I've done some
positioned layouts on my own system that worked as expected. But - I'm
concerned about letting anything on to the live system because all I
hear are bugs, workarounds and hacks.
The last straw was the ie6 peekaboo bug. I don't have ie6 and in a
panic had to phone my brother the other side of the country to tell
him to browse my simple site and describe what he saw. It...

A colleague recently breezed in with a new web page design. He
didn't tell me where he got the ideas from, but ...
Looking at his stylesheets, I noticed they identified themselves
as "Ruthsarian Layouts". Google took me to
http://webhost.bridgew.edu/etribou/layouts/
We don't seem to have had any discussion here that mentioned them.
Anyone care to take a look, and share thoughts?

Hey everyone, I am looking for your thoughts and opinions.
Is it preferable to have one css file containing all the style information
or break it up into multiple imported files for different types of
formatting. For example, one file for page layout related items and
another for text formattion?
I have seen different combinations on different pages, and am wondering
which people find is easier to maintain. Being from a coding...

I know there is Culture feature with Asp.net, but what I want to know is
how to organize/design a web application that supports multiple languages.
What is the best approach? Do I use "If, then.." to display one block of
HTML in English, and then another block in French? Is there an easy way?
Also, "string" itself doesn't support multiple cultures, right? If I
write a "string" property in a class, how do I make the property support...

Hi,
I am new to this newsgroup and need help in the following questions.
1. I am workin' on a GUI application. Does C# provides Layout Managers the
way Java does to design GUI? I know that it can be done using the designer
but I intentionally don't want to use that. The one reason is that you
cannot change the code generated by the designer. The other could be that
you have more free hand and control to design your GUI.
2....

I know how to create one for Style Sheet Switcher (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/stylesheetswitcher.htm) but not for PAGE layouts.
I mean I can make a menu to switch between a Wide Page Layout and Narrow Page Layout but I want that to be stored into a cookiee so that will show up when the visitor check back again.

Hi all - I've been browsing this forum for a while now, looking for help, and finally decided to join and ask my question, since I'm not terribly good at writing SQL queries in Access. Here is my dilemma:
Table U contains 1 field (Field F, primary key = no dupes)
Table N contains 50 fields (including Field F, same as in Table U)
* Field F in Table N contains multiple records, with dupe values
Would like to create a new Table (or just...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
