App_data folder question?

Why by simply having a .mdf file in the app_data folder it is made
accessible? Does placing a .mdf in the app_data folder does some kind
of attachment? Do this pseudo attachment works only with the express
version of SQL Server? Do this feature works for access databases?

Hi Artificer

Nice question!! Whenver u include database, it comes under app_data
folder with extension .mdf. U have used word "attachment ", I would like
to use word or rather the concept of CLR integration. So this feature
of CLR integration has been incorporated in .NET 2005.
This concept works with SQL Server 2005 only up to now. This feature
does not work for other databases. See this link to get better
understanding:-

Thanks for your answer but I think that CLR Integration has more to do
with creating database objects on .NET like store procedures and
functions but my question was instead why I can use a database on SQL
Server without attaching it as it is usually required just by placing
it on the app_data folder.

hi folks I'm working on reverse engineering TheBeerHouse by Marco Bellinaso which appears to have 100% unanimous approval on Amazon. I got the book and downloaded the code and I opened the solution. in his readme.txt he recommends that you move the database files he gives you in the App_data folder (called oddly aspnet.mdf and aspnet_log.mdf) and then attach them using sp_attach and rename them I renamed these TheBeerHouse (mdf and ldf)...

As a result I took me about 15 mintues to start VS 2005 and I was not able to start debugging since the asp.net compiler...

asp.net 2/C#/VS2005 I have a web app where I use a stream writer to create a CSV (text) file. I then use my code to save the file in the site's 'App_Data' folder, in a subfolder called 'Temp'. Finally, I redirect the page to that file in order to serve it out (push the download) to the user. This all worked great in .net v1.1. Now, in my new .net v2 app, everytime the page redirect occurs, the browser displays "The webpage cannot be...

Hi, From what I can gather, under Asp.Net 2.0, it is safe to put data and config files underneath the app_data in the web root and they will not be served directly to the browser from a URL. Can anyone explain just how this feature works. is app_data a reserved name for IIS and ASP.Net, or is there some jiggery pokery going on behind the scenes with file permissions or virtual roots?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
