Login.aspx 1.1 vs 2.0

We have several ASPX 1.1 web applications that reference a Login.aspx page.
Now groups and roles have been added to .NET 2.0. And we now have the new
Visual Studio 2005. I am guessing that with the differences between the two
..NET versions that a 2.0 web app cannot reference a 1.1 Login.aspx page and
vice versa. Right or wrong?

Even if it could I think the new 2.0 web apps we would want to take
advantage of roles and use a 2.0 Login.aspx page. So I guess what we would
really like to do is to get all those 1.1 apps with as little tinkering as
possible to recognize the login of a 2.0 Login.aspx page.

Is that doable, or are we just looking at bringing every one of our old apps
up to 2.0 to get the benefits we need? And how smoothly has that gone for
anyone?

Thanks!

Just wondering if/how it would be possible to display a variable string on the login form - where the string varies depending on the form the user attempted to access. To clarify, an unauthenticated user is browsing the site, and tries to open the UltraSecretContent.aspx page. Forms authentication automatically redirects the user to login.aspx. I would like for login.aspx to display a message that reads, "You must log in before viewing...

I have a form that will prompt for a user name/password. In VS.NET, I have the protected form in a folder named Admin. I have a Web.config file in that folder as well. I had this problem in the past, after a server reformat it went away, and now after another server reformat it's back again - no clue what's doing it. Here's the flow: Website root is public, no SSL no forms auth. One of the subfolders in the public area is the root of a "protected" area; SSL is required from this subfolder on forward and a web.config in the subfolder specifies forms authentication. From the public area, I provide a...

I am implementing a secure website using the ASP.NET FormsAuthentication model. I have taken the simplest code examples from MSDN (login.aspx,default.aspx, web.config) but cannot get proper behavior on my machine. As an unauthenticated user, I navigate to the website http://localhost/XXX. global.Authenticate_Request considers sending default.apsx but cannot find any authentication cookie in the Context object, so the request is...

When I started a new ASP project I was eager to use the login facilities offered in Framework 2.0/VS 2005. I wanted: - A custom principal that could hold my integer UserID from the database - An easy way to classify different pages as either Admin, Member or Public, where login is necessary for Admin and Member but not for Public. My idea was to put the pages in different directories to easily keep my order. - An easy menu system that...

Hi, I defined roles in order to deny access for some pages to anonymous users. I tested it by typing the url of a denied page to test the system (http://denypage.aspx). It works (access denied), and i'm automatically redirected to the login.aspx file that is defined in the root of the application.

I am wondering, how does ASP.NET know to redirect to Login.aspx from Default.aspx? I renamed Login.aspx to something else,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
