Detect and handle Request Timeout

Hi,

I'm wondering how I can find out when a request timeout has occurred and
handle it programmaticall y.

Here's is what I have so far:

// This handler is added to the web application's Error event
// somewhere else with this code:
// this.Error += new EventHandler( D2LWebApp_Error );
private void WebApp_Error( object sender, EventArgs e ) {
Exception exception = Server.GetLastE rror();
HttpException he = exception as HttpException;

if( he != null && string.Compare( he.Message, "Request timed out." ) == 0
) {
// handle the timeout somehow
}
}

This codes does work and can detect the timeout for me. However, I'm not
thrilled about relying on a string compare with the exception message!!!

Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

Thanks!
Brian.

ps - I know about the ErrorCode property of HttpException, but when a
timeout happens, it is set to -2147467259. I don't think that this number is
specific to timeout, but is a more general error code.

I have an ASP page calling a stored procedure. I have set the connection and command timeouts and I have error checking so I can trap a timeout from the stored proc (as detailed here) http://www.eggheadcafe.com/PrintSearchContent.asp?LINKID=142 This works if the stored proc just contains a "WAITFOR DELAY", but doesn't seem to throw an error when the stored proc contains long-running sql. Anyone have any ideas?

I need to be able from server side (asp.net) to detect that the file i'm streaming down to the client is saved completely/succsessfully on the client's computer before updating some metadata on the server (file downloaded date for instance) However, All examples i have tried, and all examples I have found that other people says works - doesn't work for me :-(

How do you detect when your session is going to timeout and display a message saying 'unless you do something you will be logged out' much the way bank web pages do? Can you do it for the site or do you need to put code on every page doing it? TIA

This is what i'm trying to do: I'm porting a windows app to a web app. I have a webform which will edit some data stored in a database. The data needs to be locked in the database, while editing. On first page load: Create a custom rowlock object and store it in viewstate. When user clicks on edit, retrieve the viewstate object and lock the row in the database.

I'm developing a photo album web application for use on a web site, and I'm running into a problem with lengthy operations. My application allows the user to import a number of images at once into a photo album. For each image that gets imported, I create two thumbnail images (small and medium) and insert some data into a database. The thumbnail generation process takes some time and, for relatively large amount of photos, the application...

Hi folks, I've seen the following issue come up in multiple posts to this mailing list: I have a python program that spawns a child process with popen or popen2 or popen3 or popen2.popen2 etc. the child process is interactive: it asks for input then spits out some output, asks for more input then spits out some output. for example, consider the trivial child program:

I used submodal as my popup window. With some tweaks, it working great in my app. However, I can't find a way to detect session timeout in the popup window. The app is a form based authentication so the default.aspx page will show up in the popup. So I'm looking into several options. 1. detect session timeout in javascript so that I prevent the popup from even happening. I can simply redirect or post to itself so that the calling...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
